well here i go again with my engine problems, fix one thing and another appears.
anyway now i hear weird sounds coming out of my car, first is a rattling sound, i dunno what it is but the rattling get worse when i rev the car so im not sure if its the fan belt playing up or something. second noise is ticking noise. when i was looking around the engine bay to hear where it came from i always ended up on my injectors. now is the injector not getting any fuel hence the ticking or is it getting fuel but not rite pressure or something? another thing, my cluster seems to dim everytime i break or use like electric windows, but when i rev it is brighter. (new battery about 7 days old). could anyone please help me. again

Sounds like the timing chain, maybe the timing chain tensioner is stuffed or a chain guide broken. I assume the rattle is coming from the front of the motor as you mentioned fan belt.
Yes injectors make a faint ticking noise that should be barely noticable, If you can still hear the same ticking noise with the bonnet shut then the ticking maybe noisy lifters.

koool thanks
the fan indicator lit up in the cluster once, and then suddenly turned off. does that mean the fan was malfunctioning at that time? cause since then it made that rattling noise

What was the engine temp at the time?

yeah thats true cemil. if everything was easy to find. and yeah its probably coolant, but my temp was below half way and always has been. when i was driving today everything was back to normal. so i dunno whats going on. it fixes itself and then starts playing up again.
but i am planning on replacing the clutch fan i have for a twin thermofan. hopefully that would work better

i started the car again today and it was making the rattling noise again and the alternator indicator flashed and the car just died. then i started it again and took like 30 secs for the car to get to idle speed after jumping back and forth. after that the rattling noise came back
stopped running engine, turned the key again and it started normally. both instances happend when car was already hot after a 30 minute drive. so i dunno whats wrong with it could anyone help please. thanks phong

Sorry to jump into this thread, but I need advice with my '96 Fairmont. The coolant level light came on suddenly, the water temp was still just above the "L". I topped up with some water and got back on the highway. 50km later the light starts flickering again. I pulled off and had to top up again! There doesn't seem to be any leaks, only some water coming out of the pipe at the cap.

preggie,,sounds like you need a new cap and thermostat..the caps letting out fluid under pressure..
