My 96 EF Fairmont has a misfire under load, however I have changed plugs and leads, and the distributer cap appears fine. What else could cause this? it mainly happens between the 1000 and 1500rpm range.
Thanks in advance for any help.

When i was changing the leads I had someone underneath the car changing them while i was changing the leads at the top. my mate said he looked at the "distributor cap" and it looked fine, but now i have looked at it i can clearly see it is a coil pack. i might try getting a replacement pack and see if it stops the misfire

out of interest, would the car being cold have an effect on it? cause my EF has a bit of a miss when i take off, but the car is cold. as soon as it warms up all is good and it doesnt miss a beat...

Hey Nicko my ex's EF was doing that too. Got gradually worse as time went by. Turned out to be the inlet manifold gasket. Easy to check, spray WD40 or CRC RP7 Aerostart (you choose) on the gasket on each inlet port. If it's leaking, it will stuck it in and the idle will change a bit. Her car now runs like the weopon that it was when I shared it with her!!
