Hi i was told once before by a mechanic who checked out miss in my car that EFs always have a miss is this true or can you get rid of it. My ef has a newish coil pack, newish leads, new plugs is not running rich on any cylinder according to plug colour which is white, it has a reco head new rings and bearings, newish O2 sensor i run it on premium fuel. Could it be one of the sensors. which of them are the most common that stuff up. does the knock sensor often give trouble. is there any way of diagnoising the miss withouit the use of specialised equipment or is it only something a Mech can diagnose. does anyone else have this problem with there Ef any help would be really appreciated.

I bet mines worse!
I think you notice it more in a manual as theres no torque convertor to soak up the roughness! I have a typical rough idel but not an actually miss.. maybe half a one.

give the crank angle sensor a clean but i reckon it could be the cam angle sensor. i had an ef and every now and then it would give a bit of a miss. wouldn't do it for months and then it would have an intermittant miss for a few days then it would dissappear again. i got the codes checked and the cam angle sensor showed up. replaced it myself with a second handy i got for free and problem solvered.
you can read the codes yourself but safer and more accurate to get ford or auto elec to do it. most of them these days have the equip to do it.

Replace the fuel filter first as It might help.
Theres not much I haven't replaced on my car inc. all sensors, cam etc. everything is spotless and working with no faults. I replaced my injectors, made no difference! I've full power, no flat spots, good performance and excellent economy. I've since then learned to deal with it! But this me! mine doesn't miss. as stated, try simple stuff b4 the $$$ most common thing is air leaks, so tighten up the inlet manifold and everything else.

if you don't have a gregory's then go and get one. they are around $40 but worth it. they come in very handy. i just followed the steps in there to replace the cam angle sensor. its not that hard. its not that expensive either if you take a risk with another 2nd hand one.
