yeah that works. Its a old fashoned ED isnt it ?
You can remove a plug at the rear for the vacume lines and spray cleaner in and make it run out the front. |

It shouldnt. Unless its super restrictive and forcing gasses back into the crankcase. shoulda blown a gaskit however aswell.

it shouldnt be its a 2 and a half inch lukey, lukey extractors, new sump gasket, head gasket, rocker cover gasket, rear manin, timing cover seal, front crank seal, inlet manifold had heaps of gum in it, i didn't clean it when I put it on, new valve stem seals as well

Fezagero,
Garsiph and I have been saying all along, dose it up and take it for a long highway drive. The engine I'm cleaning now had a blocked cat, no engine oil probs and still has oily deposits in the inlet manifold. If you look at your pcv valve hose it connects to the throttle body, thats where your oily engine fumes go to be recycled with your fuel. A blocked cat makes it worse. You said the manifold had gunk in it when you put it back on, so it needs a good clean. Either take the TB off and physically clean it or use the spray trick alone, but take it for a long drive to allow it to clean itself as best it can. While your at it check that your pcv valve rattles nice and free in its tube. A new exhaust is not the cause of this, either the cat alone was or it's something else. You will never know until you clean up the problems caused by the cat and fitting a dirty manifold first. Do what I suggested earlier, after all I did pick it was the cat so maybe I got the cure right too. As Garsiph says "spank the car and take it for a long run" etc. Then see if anything improves, I'm not a big fan of washing oxy sensors in petrol but if yours is clogged its better than that and please fit a new cat as soon as you can. Cheers Paul

Washing a Oxy Sensor will kill it on the spot.

As I said, I'm not a big fan of cleaning one up with petrol, maybe I've just been lucky on the ones I've had to do. Of course a new one would be the best thing, given the choked cat, but you already suggested that and he baulked at the idea. If in doubt he should leave it alone and go for a long drive... ah we've covered that too
Cheers Paul

Fezagero,
Hopefully after you've fixed these things you will still get a car that is very economical to run and maintain. We got lucky the other way and apart from maintenance items never had to spend a cent for close to 10yrs. If it wasn't for a factory issue blown head gasket I would have missed lots of "little" things that need doing so now were spending about the same as you and when it's done we hope for another trouble free 10yrs. Cheers Paul

i somehow think it wont be economical, just cos of the head work and the fact i have to run premium and i sort of have a lead right foot, our ea was good though, used to get 700 kays approx from a tank of unleaded,we only had a few dramas with over heating which i ended up replacing water pump, fan and radiator and it was golden for ages had it for 2 years
