could be the front main seal, or the timing cover,or is it more like a power steering oil leak?

Remove the plastic under tray and give the area a clean...after a few days see where it's coming from. Also remove the belt shroud at the top to see if it can be coming from the rocker cover.

Good idea. Because if you have a leaky power steering pump, you could end up with a fooked alternator.

my alternator is on its last legs because it has been soaked in oil that a leak on the front of the rocker cover. This has put oil on that bottom splash guard as well. Take of powersteering shroud and have a look. It will be very obvious if that is where the leak is coming from.

my power steering leaks and ends up below at the front of the motor aswell, dont have the money to fix mine at the moment and the car isnt registered yet so im not worryed until i get rego out of the way, ill just clean it before inspection, but yes they can stuff your alternator quickly, mine just decided not to work one day on my fairmont, luckily i wasnt out anywhere and i had another 2 spares to choose from and had it going after a few days when i could be bothered to change it lol

if your tyres are bald it will make the steering feel heavier. I assume this would also be the case with fatter tyres as the steering system has more contact with the ground to overcome. If its low on fluid top it up, your pump may be getting tired as well. Mine works brilliantly when the car is cold, but onec at operating temp it can be very heavy and the pump whines like a dying animal.

tyres are brand new stock size as its on stock mont rims (205/65 R15) and power steering pump has not lost any fluid since the switch was replaced and there is no whining but i didnt run pretty low on fluid a couple times when the switch was broken
