I have been using the search tool but can't find an answer...
I need to change my engine oil, I have always used the 15w40 suggested by Ford. Just curious, with a modified engine is it still suitable to use this grade of oil or better to use something else??

It's my EL XR engine but will be getting a fully worked head and big cam etc etc

What is a top of the line 15w40 oil that works well for the EL?

I just run 15W40...used to run Magnatec which I didn't have issues with, but now use Nulon because it is cheaper and no issues with that one either.

I used to use penrite but had oil pressure problems so i switched to phoenix 15w40 semi syn and havent had any problems. Costs about 120 for a 20litre drum

Iv been using Nulon 10w40 Full Syn and it seems to work well. its about $60 for 5L

Its just thinner oil when its cold, easier to make it's way up to the top of the head with less noise. I have used 5w20 before and works fine. 15w40 was recommended for these engines 20+ years ago. Oil has advanced heaps since then, but that doesn't mean you have to change but there are more options now.
