It's not often you get a straight out success story but here is mine:
Problem: My engine started missing under high throttle openings. Initally this started as a slight unevenness in the power delivery but gradually got worse and worse. It was fine at curise but made a slightly lumpy idle and if you jabbed the throttle it could cough and shake. Solution: A gregorys manual/fordmods and my own gut feeling said it was ignition related so spent 3 hours swearing/cutting fingers etc. pulling ignition leads (standard 200,000Km Motorcrafts) out. No. 5 is broken (M Ohm resitance) Also the others were between 9 and 12 KOhm's. And the dizzy cap had a buildup on the terminals which also read in the M Ohms of resistance. A wire brush and some Bosch spiral core leads later and the Cap reads 0 Ohms and the leads between 4 and 6 Kohms. Another 2 hours of swearing later and its all in. Also decided to change the fuel filter (also an original item) When it came out all this black fuel and some metal filings came out!! A new valvoline one went in and after some testing, jiggling of connections and screwing it didn't leak and was ready to go. Result: Car idles great now, problem completely gone and revs cleaner and smoother. Total cost -$80. Conclusion: WHY DID THEY PUT THE DIZZY UNDER THE INLET MANIFOLD!! Would of taken 20min if it wasn't for the inlet!

Yeah amazing what the basics can do hey.
I swear my leads are getting a bit dodgey, but due to fords placement of the dizzy as you said I can't really be bothered fixing/checking. |

You really need to use a hoist or ramps , job can be done in 15mins.

just think yourself lucky you don't have coil pack. that makes your job look easy.

Coil pack lead replacement is a piece of cake as long as you have a thin flexible arm (not Arnie sized!) and a little patience and you need a set of bent long nose pliers ( preferably SNAP ON)
