Get an EL GT intake snorkel for about $35 from Ford. No trouble with that just straight swap fits perfect.

Get a 3" intake pipe from the airbox to the throttle body. Should be about $300-$350 from an exhaust shop. Problems with that is it might rub on the bonnet so you'll have to check for clearance. Maybe get the exhaust shop to flatten the piping a little on the highest point.

Finally get the head off and get it ported and get new valve guides, valves. That'll be the rest of the money gone.

Free flowing engine then with the JMM extractors and exhaust system.

if you not after power then i would probably look at a acl bottom end, either standard rebuilt or maybe step it up to a race series. A race series rebuilt kit is around the $880 mark not including labour and machinging. I bought a acl race series bottom end few months back and i think the guy said it cost about 1300 built. and that will be a nice and reliable bottom end the with the leftover $700 i dont really know what u could get done to the head? maybe just look for a very low km au head and bolt it on? that should provide you wil a bit of extra go and decent reliability.

Get:

an ACL RACE kit
Aftermaket cam, surecam do good ones
Appropriate valve springs if required
Vernier gear, install as per cam grinder recomendations
Get the head and deck skimed slightly
Full 3 angle valve and seat job on the head
Better intake as described above.

Thats it without going into the ecu side of things which starts to get pricey and keeping under $2000 parts budget.

Heavier springs are normally only needed for more rev's and aggressive profiles. Heavier springs can cause mechanical losses. The EF runs thinner valve stems and beehive style springs IIRC and thats good enough.
