my ea has only gotten one head gasket change, and that was like 6 years ago when the car was still my dads. but i want to get the whole car to be refurbished.......mainly respray paint and engine re-con.
i want to try and do engine recon myself, but knowing me id be able to pull it apart only to blow the engine when put together. is it going to be hard if i do it myself? would it take long to get it reconditioned and how much would it cost to be done professionally? thanks everyone phong

it all boils down to how much you want to get done, if any problems are found while stripping the car in preperation, and how much you can do yourself

just say im not doing anything myself. Professionals take the engine out of my car so that i can respray paint my car and if nothing needs to be replaced. so another words labour costs to do the job without replacing any old stuff.
thanks phong

Buy a newer car. It will be cheaper.
I was quoted $1000 to take the engine out of my car. Then you have to hire a car trailer to take the car anywhere. Reconditioning the engine might cost another $600 - $2000 depending on what is broken and what you want done. And we havent even started on painting costs. How much is you car worth? I have seen plenty of EA's for sale between $1000 and $2000.

yeah but i prefer to keep my car and fix it, rather then buying a new one. nothing is wrong with my car, its just i want it to be reconditioned to run slightly smoother, and also i want to rewire most if not all of the earth wires and other loose wires while the engine is out
yeah i was thinking about the towing part being a bit of a bish but if its done all in one place would be cheaper. im looking on spending probably 4000-5000 on this, but exterior for now, interior is mainly custom made by me. thanks phong

If you just want it to run smoother i dont see much point in pulling the engine out and rebuilding it. Wait to it really starts to go downhill or if you were going to rebuild it for performance then defiantly bring it out now and get it done.
Maybe have a look at those ITS? engine kits, they are rebuilt engines in stages e.g. stage 2 kit. Maybe paint the outside, door jambs, boot etc and dont worry about doing the engine bay until you have to pull the engine out.

I'd get an IT's Engine (or similar), but it ain't worth a full (professional) respray IMO. Would be cheaper to buy another EA with better paint. Like, alot cheaper. Spend the cash on a good motor, T5 if it ain't already, suspension, (whiteline works kit would be tasty) and get it going and handling good. Plain looking sleepers flick my switch for some reason...
Competely off topic, I found what looks like a partial respray (a good respray by the looks of it) line on my sprint the other day... No biggy, just surprising...

yeah but i like this car, and ill stick to it, until the engine dies somehow, stolen or it caught fire. maybe a write off even.
but yeah i might just get a respray paint of the exterior and just leave the engine, might do so minor upgrades first before i put something big into the engine. thanks all. phong

Mate, I may be completely nuts, and please don't take this the wrong way, but respraying an EA to me is just insanity. If you were doing it yourself or getting a mate to do it, f**k sweet, but paying to get it professionaly resprayed? Lunacy.
Look at it this way. You get a rebuilt motor, and suspension work done, you can always transfer them to another car. It's f**k hard trying to unbolt a paintjob.

i am probably going to get a friend of mine to do the spray paint job for me, which would only cost me the paint. hmmm might wait till next year after the holidays.

thanks phong no one would want to put it back together for you. to many things could be missing and it would turn in to the biggest head ache every. if you take it out fine. get it built and you can put it back in. |
