basic rundown:
Disconnect battery earth lead Disconnect earth lead from engine block Disconnect power steering lines from power steering pump Disconnect exhaust flange (2 bolts, sometimes stiff, might need WD40) unplug the oxgen sensor Disconnect wiring from alternator undo bottom radiator hose and drain cooling system undo top radiator hose undo transmission cooler pipes if it's an auto undo the 2 bolts holding in the radiator remove engine fan cowling remove radiator disconnect all wiring looms attatched to the engine Disconnect the accelerator cable Disconnect the fuel feed line and the fuel return line remove the air filter and associated pipe work from the throttle body remove the air conditioning compressor off the side of the engine disconnect both heater hoses at the firewall jack up the car and support on saftey stands remove the wiring that goes to the starter motor, if you are leaving the gearbox in the car, remove the starter motor undo the 2 through bolts that go through the engine mounts undo the bolts holding the transmission to the engine, and the torque converter to the flex plate, and remove the sandwhich plate (only do this if you are leaving the gearbox in the car) once you have done all that stuff, remove the bonnet, and attatch your engine crane/block n tackle, and lift the engine out. If you remove it together with the transmission, which I find easier, then undo the tailshaft, shifter, and rear crossmember, and just haul the lot out together, make sure nothing is still connected as you go along, and you should be sweet, basically you just want to make sure nothing is attatched between the car and the motor, and then lift it. Things to watch are if removing the box with motor:
Snagging or squashing the brake lines on the firewall and loosing the oil out of the gearbox. You need the car plenty high to do it with the box still on so the lifting device needs to be able to cope with that. A plastic bag over the extension housing won't cut it you would be better off using a proper cap. Its a bit more work but removing the bellhousing bolts and TC bolts makes it easier to remove the motor if thats all that needs service/replacement.
