hey,
when i accelerate in my 4.0ltr EB sometimes the engine squeels... i thought it might be the belts... but im not sure... i had a look under the hood when the car was just idleing and it sounds like 1 of the injectors is ticking or something so i dont know if that may be squeeling when i accelerate. does anyone know what im on about and what it might be ? ive tryd spraying wd40 on the belts to see if it would stop but didnt do to much.

oh ok, so would that make it so it only does it every now and then ?

i would say def the belts are squealing, the ticking sound is a seperate issue, may need a injector clean.
Had a prob on the old EB with the belts sqealing, tightened it up and bobs ur uncle. Although i wouldnt be spraying WD-40 on the belts, that will make more noise. more lube more slip.

Replace the buggers - one of the few things that will bring these cars to a complete standstill if they stuff up.
Bit of belt grip might help in the mean time.

ohh so that might be why when i take off it squeels... cos the belt isnt gripping.
when i granny drive it it seems alright thanks i will try order some new belts tomorrow at work

hang on ... did you mean belt grip as in the belts need more grip... or is belt grip something i can put on them ?
i had a look at my belts and they seem pretty firm...

Belt grip is a spray... kind of like a gentle adhesive. I used to use it on the supercharger belt, because there's only so tight you can pull those belts before damaging the blower. Belt grip (spray can) used to help a lot.
A belt will squeal for a few reasons. Usually, they are a bit old, have streteched and wont have the required tension. The material can also deteriorate... kind of perishes in the heat they are subject to and they will eventually loose their grippiness.... bad cases will see them start to crack and fray. Belts can also come out of alignement if pulleys etc start to move because of bent brackets or too much end float on the pulleys. I would suggest you are experiencing the first two reasons.

Belt grip is a spray type stuff that you can buy from Auto shops and that.
But definately replace your belts, there not expensive and they get old and worn, specially if they've been slipping around... |

hi,
thanks for that i just went down to the servo and the guy said they look a little warn ... on the V belts the belt is below the actual thing it sits in so i'm guessing there isnt much of it left, i will just try replace them. thanks

ive heard there can be a bearing, the main belt pulley one i think in some earlier flat sixes ford made that went south. i heard a rough number of $400 to fix

my mates has the same problem,his prob is that some of his teeth on his adjuster pully thingy have broken off causing the belt to become lose therefor causing it to squeel like a pig,but not helping the situation is that he also has a rather shiny pully so when the belt is tight its still free spinning over the shiny pully,so check those things out while your at it.

I had this problem on mine, it was the alternator bracket. The teeth had been stripped and wouldn't tighten anymore. Just be careful because i stripped the new one too
 If you replace the bracket you may need to remove the clutch fan, not hard just need a big 32mm spanner. Also if your interested like i was leave the clutch fan off and start it, man the car is quiet without those noisy things. Make sure you put it back on before driving though.
