Hello,
I have a Ford Falcon GLi 4.0 6cyl from 1998. The car is running on both LPG and petrol. The problem is that when I start the car while the engine is cold, it stutters. Stutterting stops after a short while when the engine has warmed up. Stuttering occurs with both fuels. As soon as the engine is warm it runs good on petrol without causing any problems. The car runs smooth on LPG also but sometimes the engine starts to choke and stalls. It doesn't happen often but it does. I'm hoping to get some advice - where to start etc. Thanks! Sander |

Hi, is the idle rough at all?

Well it's rough enough to see the engine jumping quite alot. Revs are not jumping up and down that bad but it's pretty rough. There's a smell of petrol coming out of the exhaust aswell. I reckon the mixture of fuel and air is wrong? Sorry if I didn't understand your question properly... English is my second language.

It's a bit of a stab in the dark but it's something to consider. The LPG converter after time when the get old can leak water through to the LPG side allowing water in to the inlet manifold. This can produce the symptoms you're describing. Just pull off the hose from the converter to the inlet manifold and check for any moisture or water. Also take note of excessive steam out the exhaust on warm up. Could also check spark plugs for any corrosion which may indicate this or a possible blown head gasket.

Also, how long has this been happening? Did it just occur suddenly?

Okay, pulled off the hose which is coming from the LPG converter and going to the inlet manifold. It was completely dry. Engine doesn't "eat" any coolant but it seems to take some oil. Nothing major but I noticed a slight oil loss. Unfortunately I didn't have any time to check spark plugs at the moment. The amount of steam coming out of the exhaust with cold engine isn't that big but there is some. I don't have any idea about the history of the car because I recently bought it. I noticed the rattle with a cold engine right away but the LPG problem showed itself later on. It comes and goes...
