I have a 95 ef wagon, funny hence the name, my long term goal is to replace the existing engine with an xr6 turbo engine (and get rid of the auto and convert to a 5 or 6 speed manual) I am just testing the waters to see what people opinions are of this, am I dreaming, or do you think it can be done. I understand there will be the obvious mounting issues etc, but apparently the engine does fit, was featured in street machine in an ef sedan last year or the year before - a while ago.
Along with this will come the necessary upgrades - so i will post again in the driveline forum, but for now comments please! Thanks everyone |

this has been discussed at length many times.... do a search. the problem is the height of the engine as well as controlling the DVCT in the xr6t motor. on top of this it will be a s**t to engineer to make it legal

I realise that this has been done heaps, or if not done it has been contemplated and discussed. Thats why i'm not asking the technical details here.
I'm just trying to see what people think of the idea Appreciate the input though!!!! |

If you can pull it off it would be pretty awesome! Did the Ba 4.0 use DVCT? If it did you would need a fancy after market computer to run it.
It all comes back to money, if you are keen and your wallet is, go for it!! cheers |

why not a turbo in a wagon?
are there issues with that in Aussie. Would be just a matter of getting it cert'd over here, which is all good cos my mates dad owns a cert company. |

as everyone has already said yes you can do it, but it all comes down to money.
If i was going to do this, I'd goto your preferred speed shop (ie one that tunes BA's with the capa flash tuner) and tell them what you want to do and see if they're prepared to help you get it running with the BA/BF factory ECU. Apparently security can be disabled or at least hacked around to make it run without the rest of the BA interior etc.. But you would have to speak to whoevers gonna do it for you.. |

Waste of money and time, just buy a BA.

What if they don't want a ba
If you don't have anything useful to say, keep it to yourself, especially when it can be found offencive. They wouldn't have posted this if they were interested in a BA. |

i think a lot of people missed the point of the poll. i think a XR6T engine into an E-series wagon would be awesome just get a bonnet bulge and it would be sweet.

personally if given the choice of ba xr6t engine or a custom turbo install on a au/ef/el engine id prefer ba engine stock turbo and do the usual ba tricks for 300kw@ wheels without too many hassles.
making it fit and ecu are the only tricky parts. |

you'll get just as good results putting a decent turbo setup on the existing ef 4.0 (rebuilt to suit of course) and still be waaaay in front financially. the next cheapest would be to buy a ba wagon and then jst transplant a xr6t motor into that. at least then the brakes would be up to the task, or handle the extra weight and power much better than the ef will.
the only reason you would do it is just so you can say 'i've got a ba motor in mine'. there are no other benefits.

And having a motor that is capable of alot more power then the SOHC 4.0? But anyway, to the original post, yes it can be done, and yes you are probably dreaming. Stop posting, go do it, come back with pics.
