My BA had a loud whistle from somewhere at the rear of the engine when it warmed up & it started straight after I fitted a supercharger. My local Garage, & a Ford Dealer & everybody else said that I must have stuffed up with the S/C fitting.

So.... I refitted the S/C...again... and then that fricken horrible whistle ... it was still there.

This time I took it to a S/C specialist Garage (APC Underwood) & they said that it was an air leak in supercharger setup & to do it again with better gaskets!

SO...off it came again & refitted but this time with the best gasket material money can buy (good for 1300 PSI & 500 degrees C) .
But that stinkin whistle noise was still there.

So I sprayed every joint, & every seal with WD40 to pinpoint any leaks but there where no leaks anywhere. Checked every vacuum line, PCV Valve, throttle body,,you name I checked it... well so I thought anyway.

But anyway,,,, after all of this "BS" it turned out to be a plastic coupling that connects a "Plastic" Vacuum line (Not a rubber line) to a small aluminum pipe that runs from the firewall to the rear of the car, must be something to do with emissions or a fuel breather or something. To the naked eye it looked like it was fitted properly in place & it looked like a perfect seal.
But as it turned out, it was just not pushed on far enough. Soon as I Pushed it on properly ( a very loose fit too) the noise instantly vanished & I didn't know whether to cheer or cry! So I just swore like crazy for about 20 minutes..

Its a pr!ck of a hose to find & get to because it is totally covered in anti-lock brake crap. No way can you see it without really searching for it with a torch & then you rip the skin off your hand ( blood everywhere) getting to it, but I have huge hands so I guess that doesn't help.

So all of that work I did refitting the S/C 3 times was not necessary, at least i can do it in my sleep now, if that's any consolation.

Even so - it's a good and useful reply - especially as feckers involved in 2008 never got back to tell what final results ended up being. Makes searching USELESS when feckers won't properly feedback on results - positive or otherwise. People who say "go search" make me furious because searching is often a USELESS EXERCISE fort that reason. At least this redig of the old topic now makes it some use!

And all I can add is that using a length of garden hose to your ear is a good tool for tracing noises. Of course BE CAREFUL poking about a running engine!!

Edit: actually I do realise the 2008 replies include some decent suggestions and info - but the OP never did get back on what was found or not - and regardless of all that, the recent reply is a useful addition IMO.
