Hi all just got off the phone with my warranty mob and they basically couldnt do anything for me as far as my car troubles went. But i may have another road to travel down.

The mechanic told me that thiers a fresh newly done up 4L falcon engine complete (minus the cam). Over $3000 was speant on it and it was going into an EB but the guy who owns it has sold the eb. $1000 they want for the engine.

The head has been ported and polished and worked on further...etc The bottom end has been done up as well and it is blueprinted as well (sorry im a noob) im not sure what that means exactly.

But yeah as far as performance goes this engine will far exceed my stock xr tickford engine.

I dont know the EXACT details but he has asured me that this engine is worked completely. And will be fine to run on LPG.

The problem is thou how do i know its gonna be as good as they say it is and i still minus a few other details too but suffice to say im checking it out tommorrow the only problem is thou i dont really know what im looking at. :?

So yeah might have to get my bro to come and have a look at it with me.

What do you guys reckon, is it worth investing in? The total price im looking at paying now is roughly $3000-$3200. For the complete job to get done.

Any comments will be apprecitated.

think by the sounds of the trouble you are having you might have to grab this engine, if its all its cracked up to be, then cut all ties with this person doing the work. throw a bbq and ask around here for a couple blokes to lend a hand one day and just put it in your self.

Went and caught up with the mechanic today to find out more about the engine. And they are going to inspect it tonight to find out if any other parts need to be bought but if all is well then yeah i should have the new engine in by Wed-Thurs next week.

The head has been ported and polish etc. Its been balanced and blueprinted. The head is apparently race spec (going by what they have told me).

They also had a reco'd 5 speed manual thier for sale as well which suited the engine more than the auto (giving the mods done to it) but the mechainc said i will be fine with an Auto anyway.

So price wise im still looking around the $2500-$2900 mark which is good! Will know more tonight possibly.

Ah, just what I hear is if you have an AU head you basically don't have to worry about the head going again.

Well they are still going to be using the AU Metal gasket on the head, which is definately the go. But yeah afaik its just the regular Ef-El head..?

Id definitely consider it, just make sure you know what your getting. If it is all legit its a good deal, but you do have to look out for yourself or risk being screwed over.

If the engine has been blueprinted they you should be able to get all the tolerances. If $3000 has been spent, get the receipts as your going to want to know what has been done to plan any future mods. Also make sure the engine is sensible for a road car - eg. has it been built for high compression and is going to ping on pump fuel. If the head is heavily ported you will lose low end power etc.

take it for a test drive before you pay him in full.
i realise you can't flog a new engine, but load it up a hill or even half throttle and you will notice the difference.
if it feels the same ask that you dont pay him in full until it's run in and your happy with it, although thats probably gonna get your mechanic p****d off lol.

Well yeah thats another problem i will have to sort out with the guy that own's the engine, i will be talking to him about it on Monday as he has my Mobile no, so i will definately have quite a few questions to ask.

Also the mechaincs that are going and having a look at it said if the engine was not practical for me then they would not use it.. They relise what im after engine wise etc.. And if it doesnt seem practical enough for me to put in the XR then yeah they will not be using it as i said..

They said that to me straight out. Which is good to know.

So yeah i still have the final decision to make..?
