But that wouldn't work seeing that the cam has to be run in. and the ecu has to learn whats going on.

Spot on there Thats why every cam will be in the car for a minium of 7 days fro ecu to learn and cam to run in. Ecu will be reset also with every new cam tried. |

sounds like a good idea, will be interesting to find out the end results.

actually a lot of dyno's now have weather stations and correction factors that can be applied to produce a base line on which comparisons can be made, the mdx dyno used in the syd dyno day has this and was used on the day, if you compare everyones dyno sheet in the bottom corner it has the correction used as the day got hotter. we have used the same dyno on a couple of different days now and just reload the conditions from when we first put mine on, i am quite confident that the final fiqures we got from my cam are true and accurate, even though done on different days. as for the actuall rwkw achieved, i think we should only compare them to the std cam in a percentage increase, for example mine showed a 23% increase in power from the cam (after playing with the cam timing and ignition timing to optimise the cams potential).

UPDATE
Have now recieved word thanks to Chris from wade cams that they are willing to supply a Wade 1636 for this experiment. Also recieved work from a mate that he might be able to supply me a JMM Dev3HL cam also. So 2 more down and a few more to go. Cheers Spider |

If you would like to help this cause just PM me what you would like to donate or post on here. Also i have talked to the site owners and admin and i have there approval to accept donations and the approval to go ahead with the doco and trials. Ecu will be reset also with every new cam tried. i think your are forgetting 2 things here.. 1 roller cams do not need to be run in. and 2 all power runs are done at WOT there are NO ecu adaptions at WOT. it's a fixed map in open loop all oxtgen sensor reading are ignored only coolent temp and air temp are used for corrections. so testing all cams on one day would get the right power numbers. the ecu only relearns idle fuel and spark, idle up fuctions for A/C and power steering load. running the cam for a week will only show how well it idles and cruises. and with all of cams you plan to use it will be worse then the stock cam. |

Yeah but it would be nice to know which of these cams is still usable without a chip.
Doing a 'power' comparo is one aspect of it, but knowing roughly how each cam performs on the street is even more valuable in my opinion.

tickford_6 is spot on the money.
There is no learning done at WOT, and dyno runs done on different days are NOT comparable IMO. Do them all on the one day...please for the sake of accurate comparison. |

David,
If you know anything about dyno's you would know that you can set dyno's (like joe's new one) to set up the room and everything as the same temperature it was the week before. These trials are not only about power figures. These cams will hopefully be run down a strip giving at 1/4 Time for each cam, dyno figure for each cam, also driveablity on the road, and how it makes power. This aint just jmm does 130, crow does 133 thing. Yeah say for example the crow makes an extra 3 rwkws but is terrible to drive on the street, doesn't idle, and gives a s**t 1/4 time yet the jmm idles perfect and gives a better 1/4 time. So for the sake of everyone else before you complain and voice your 2 cents please read the entire thread instead of half this and half that. Cheers Spider |
