Got a letter from the EPA saying that my exhaust system is too loud.. was spotted by coppers sitting down watching traffic outside the games village.

I got a Redback System with hotdog on my 95 EF XR6, and was told it would be borderline on 90db but i wouldve been fine if didnt open up the throttle (which i dont do on the suburban roads)
90db is the noise level.

i have to take it to the testers but its gonna cost me $35 to get it done.
what should i do? should i go away and get it done or should i go to an exhaust shop and ask them wat alternatives i can do.

anyone got any ideas on what i can do?
cheers
Ryan

Take it and get it tested not really much you can do before you know what db reading its making.

No point spending money making it quieter if its already on/below 900db.

ive had this happen

i just borrowed a muffler from a friend with an ef, and took it to be tested, i went to the shepaton guy on your list, and got done at 94 with 2 mufflers, but he let me pass, good bloke actually. they do take details of you exhaust down though, they do chek for stuff in it if it seems suss, they even draw a diagram in a box on the test sheet.

btw limit is 92db when i got tested 8 months ago.

$35, damn i got ripped at $65...

hope that all helps.

Shove a bunch of those dish wire scrubbers in your exhaust... take it to get tested, and once you've passed take 'em out and go home laughing like a maniac

EDIT: on second thoughts alot of people have been doing this, they might have cought on.

BTW, what is gonna happen if you don't get the car tested. As if cops can hasle you without even pulling you over. that is such crap.

You purchased and fitted your zorst on advise that although close it was stil legal. The kind people from the epa send a letter saying that the cops spotted your car on a road amongst lots of other road going vehicles.
How can you be certain that it was your car they herd and not another. Further more now it's going to cost you for the db test which if passed you could still cop again as the car in front or behind may well be the one that they heard in the first place or hear the next time round.

well if its passed and gets brought up again.. the car should be on file that it has been passed before and therefore should not be tested. but yer thats about right revhead :( cant win

This is what it says on the letter:
'Noise Test: Maximum noise levels for STATIONARY vehicles not to exceed those in the following table: 90db - Post 1983)
So is that for when its idling?

change the gaskets to one that have little holes in them and then go to the test and then when you leave give it a few big revs and they will blow out and then your back to normal again
