There are plenty of 4L BA highway patrol cars around these days. The EB was the 'BA' of the early 90s. Jupjup: Is the car badged as a gli? Does it have the red strips around the outside?

But i see were your coming from As Chicken pointed out, there are 6 cylinder highway patrol cars, but generally there 8's... I mean wasn't the EB XR6 the fastest Autralian production car at the time or something? And quicker than the EB XR8? Anyways, I didn't particuarly mean to imply that they all were or anything, I was just making the point that what mods (if any) are done to the cop car depends apon what role the car played! |

I mean never have i seen a 6 cylinder (non-turbo) high way patrol car. My definition of high way patrol is, the cars which target speeders hence they have mobile speed cameras.

This is true, and if the car is badged as a gli (as opposed to being an S-pack), then I doubt that it was highway patrol, so probably doesn't have any mods beyond lack of speed limiter, S-pack cluster, and other 'standard' police mods.

HWP cars are usually equiped with LED scrolling screens on the roof, a radar mounted on the roof next to the lights, they're all XR6+

back in the 90's wheels magazine said in the EF/EL xr series the 6 would be quicker off the line but top end the XR8 would catch it due to the gearbox being lighter then the xr8 i may be right or wrong but if some one has the artical then post a replie with all specs and times

So did the taxis and the cars with the tow packs, but again, it could of been bought just as a company run around to pick the lunchs up cop car, therefor it could be no different! |

Snow_white wrote: On a serious note i may think that the speed limiter was taken off, and the gear ratios changed?
I dont think EA-ED's have speed limiters, they are pretty old... Correct me if I am wrong though but I have had my car well over 200km/h (Controlled Conditions people!!!) and at that time It was just a stock Fairmont Ghia. Its too bad the digital speedo only goes to 199 I got clocked on the strip at 216km/h before starting to slow. As for gear ratio's in ex-cop cars I have no idea. |
