sorry if this isnt the right place 2 post this i looked for a similar topic but couldnt find any.
this is probably a simple question to answer

im wanting 2 know how to get a particular sound out of my car, the sound being the kind of crackling almost like backfiring on deceleration like a very lumpy idle but it rumbles really aggresivly. i love the sound haha despite if its bad for the car or not.

if any 1 can help me i appreiciate it alot , sorry if the details are confusing only words i could put to the sound lol

shouldn't you be studying then?

Also the crackling/lumpy noise can't just be made from changing the exhaust. I think you want the V8 crackling noise...if that's the case you will first need a V8 if you haven't got one. Then need a lumpy cam and an exhaust to suit.

Not going to get the same effect out of a I6.

Wrong.

I had an AWESOME cracking/lumpy sound on my i6 before I had it tuned. It was there since I converted to manual, possibly a side effect of an auto ECU with resistor mod? When I had it tuned I also switched to an EL manual ecu and cracking effect is gone :(

do you mean the burgle kinda noise? or an actual crackle? holden v8's do it and it sounds horrid.
my old ea used to do the burgle kinda noise on when i took my foot off, and that just had standard exhaust but with a hotdog.

My old EF II XR8 used to do it with a Lukey 3" straight through in Closed Loop first thing in the morning. Went away once it went open. Again..... the point being XR8

i mean e.g. get to about 4000rpm, leave it in gear but take foot off accelerator. makes an epic 'popping' sound, sounds like an old muscle car. probably due to s**t afr's lol, since after tune it doesn't do that anymore...

you want the overrun crackle crackle crackle noise when you come off the throttle? Not from your I6 mate, wrong engine config. the I6 is a smooth motor and will not bang and f@rt when you pull your foot off the throttle, maybe a bad tune and rich as hell will start to achive what you are talking about, but, No.

Yes you can have the burble on decel,

Its caused from unburnt fuel entering the exhaust. Thats why a Auto ECU with a resistor mod in a manual car will make it happen. Auto's are designed to put a tiny amount of fuel in at all times (otherwise the car would stall) whereas manuals can shut the fuel off completely. so yea it can happen..

Yes that would explain it. As when I got tuned I also got a manual EL ECU. Which made it stop :( You can buy me ED auto resistor-modded ecu if you want hehe

So why did my car sound smooth during acceleration, changing gears and deceleration with the resistor trick? Now I have a J3 chip, but it still didn't make much of a difference besides stopping the car from stalling.

I'd get my engine checked if it was making a crackling sound everytime I put my foot off the accelerator.
