ok ive just got a new exhaust system (extractors to tip) and im curious as to how long it will take to break in, its all mild steel. so if anyone has done the same and know how long please say.
also once the carbon builds up will the exhaust be louder, quieter or a different note? system is pacemaker 4490, into 100cpi highflow cat with xforce single 2.5" mild steel cat

do you have a muffler just behind the tips (or resonator) not sure what you call them, im thinking of getting the same setup i had on my EL, single muffler, straight thru pipes, not sure if it will be louder or quieter on the BF compared to the EL engine?

hey mate when i did my BF mine took about 6 weeks to bed in and also stop the burning smell. As someone said the exhaust just gets "better", much deeper and not as raspy note as when first fitted.

lowie57, my system is uses two mufflers, i didnt want it overly loud so for me it was a good choice, plus being on my P's last thing i need is to have an exhaust that screams out at cops "LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
using the 2ndary trip meter im seeing how much ive driven on the new exhaust, at the moment ive done 200kms, theirs no more burning smells already, but this is probably due to 160kms being done in one hit, cause i wanted to see how the zorst would perform and im very very impressed, next step is to find a place that can tune the car for a dirt cheap price lol

you can get it over and done with in about a couple hours or so..
start the car in the morning when its dead cold, and rev it to the rev limiter and keep it their for about 25min and then switch it off while its still on the limiter. then leave the car sitting their until it gets cold and repeat the process one more time. you should be good after that.. let us no how you go

Lets see... after 10mins of sitting on the rev limiter from a stone cold start let alone 25mins you'd do a s**t load more harm to your engine than any supposed benefit to your exhaust note. I'd hate to be your car mate. Enough said.

Lowie57, dont do one muffler on ur car, i did it to mine and it sounded s**t, like a chainsaw, VERY loud ( i have 2.5" cat back hi flow cat and hurricane extractors) it idled like a v8, you could have sworn it was a v8, but the second i put my foot down it was SOO loud and sounded like a dying chainsaw, I put a hotdog resonator in where the old muffler used to be, and it sounded FANTASTIC, not quite like a v8 but still fairly loud, and is such a pleasure to listen to.
and btw it was the middle muffler, u might get different sounds from the tip muffler...not sure.. but i would recommend leave tip muffler, change middle muffler to hotdog (make sure u get a hotdog resonator, not a hotdog muffler) and then obviously cat converter, whatever u may have.. leave as is.. |
