Was thinking of wrapping my extractors to keep underbonnet temps down. Is is worth it? A mate of mine worked for rare spares and told me it causes the welds to crack because the headers run too hot. Anyone using it with any problems?

it works good
and keeps the heat inside the pipes never heard of it cracking welds though... but it looks like crap best bet is to get it coated by jet hot etc as this is far more efficent than tape and looks way better

Yes it dose crack the pipes as mine have. Jet hot is good but expensive about $250 plus freight and car off the road. It looks OK if you do it right.

Got the same prob so much so that heat melts accel and clutch cables!!!! need a solution also..I thought of wrapping cables, but this does not stop the under bonnet heat as you know....oh well

insulate the cables and install a heat sheild.. the car does not sound to healthy if it melting everything under the bonnet.. why so much engine temp?

I think a custom alloy heat shield sounds like the best solution. Im not having the headers crack from the tape.

actual morot runs near cold, no prob there... on the blue/ but extracs are putting out heaps of heat, not coated..iis common and they are long extracs which extend furthur then usual, hence being closer to cables.

i've alsoheard the insulation tape weakens the metal.
Have a look at modyourcar.com, i'm pretty sure they used to sell an extractors jacket. |

Im getting a metal fabricator to price a custom alloy heat shield for me. Im trying to get XR6 FALCON etched into it also. If i can get it i'll post pics and prices up for them. You spray high temp paint over the writing then polish back the alloy leaving the etching in colour, looks awesome.

Thats a sweet idea, let us know how it goes..Im glad someone understands! Most of these guys thinks an engine is finished if extracs release a heap of radiant heat...thats not the case

I just refitted the standard shield back on the EB when i got mine done. Cant do up the bottom bolts that went over tha factories, but it doesnt matter a toss. it keeps the heat off the top of the engine bay and cost nothing. just be carefull coss most exhaust jopints throw away the factory heat shield when you get after market headers.

Why not just paint and refit the facotry heat shield, just tkaes some bending and they fit. Or order one of the stainless steel ones that the fella on ehre makes (I bet they'd be cheaper than having some other bloke make a 1 off)? |
