A lot of people on here seem to be going for exhaust upgrades, I was just wondering, does it significantly effect your insurance premiums?

hmm, yeah, but I thought I'd get a quicker answer through here than through NRMA, the only thing they're quick at is taking money

Mine went up $100 just for a cat-back exhaust. I'm not allowed any other performance enhancements. :(

I work for an Insurance company, and any modifications to your car will attract a higher premium.

If it changes the performance of a car it will cost you more, even if you change the color of you car from a standard color that came with that model.....eg My car is C**k green, If I was to change it too acid green it will increase your premium because they look at it as being something to make your ride look hot, and to gain attention, so then they assume you are a co ck head, and even though you not, thats how they look at you, amd also it will stand out to thieves also.

The only way to get around these sorts of problems, is if you get the genuine Ford parts e.g. Genuine XR rims or something and genuine Tickford/FPV springs

Putting a stereo in your car will increase your premiums too, the whole way insurance works is based on these questions

Why is he/she doing it?

Will it change normal handeling aspects of the car?

Will it increase the likely of a theft?

I hope this has cleared up some questions

yes and no. i used to be with nrma, but never liked them. theyre a bunch of f**k, and i can vouch for that, my brother used to work for nrma, and i think the common term for nrma insurance brokers was "broker b**ch"

NRMA will say it will affect your premium, or we wont want to insure you, but provided you have an existing policy, and have made the mods (exhaust in particular), you will be insured. extractors included. the nrma broker manual instructs brokers to strongly discourage any performance modifications, such as minor engine work, exhaust upgrades adn the like. i can get a direct quote when i get home if need be.

long story short, f**k insurance. its a load of s**t, but we have to pay the exorbitant premiums, because some dopey doof doof decides to see how he goes sideways taking up 5 lanes when there are 2 available, and 1 filled with a parked car.

my rant

It depends what type of insurance you have, what company, how old you are, your record, blah blah blah.
Basically, I'm insured full comp for $310 a year at 18 years old with mods. But my last two insurance company cut my contract, when i did mods to the car without first asking, and 6 insurance companies have told me they can't insure me and what not.

I've shared my secret a couple of times now on here! I use an Insurance Brocker, http://www.gng.com.au/motorquote.html.

And yeah, it is under my parents name, but let's be honest, $310 is bloody cheap full comp for an 18 year old with tinted windows, sound system, extractors, exhaust alloys, tickford bodykit, blah blah blah total value around 10 grand, even if it is under his parents name.

Not yet, the Cams hopefully half way between here and Melbourne at the moment, and the Tickford kit, or the half I currently have is sitting unpainted in the garage, over the next few weeks it'll all be getting done and then I'll post pictures, specially of my new interior that I'm doing...
