hold your hand over the exhaust tip and let the car run for a bit if there is a hole you'll here a hiss getting louder and louder (make sure you put something over your hand as the exhaust tip may be hot)

you dont want to block the exhaust off completely just till you can hear a hissing sound and if motor goes to stall take your hand off the exhaust tip ?

holes in your exhaust will show up as black sooty spots, should be easy to spot... check all the welds in the pipe work and any seams on the muffs for blackened areas.

Brackets also become loose and can become noisy. If it has a chrome tip the weld can sometimes brake and rattle around! Shake it while engine off, if your hear noises baffles could be stuffed and noisy!

you can use a piece of hose and use it like a stethoscope, put one end to your ear and the other around the welded joins and gaskets..
if there is a leak you will hear it...
