Hi all,
I have just snapped one of the two studs that bolt the exhaust to the exhaust manifold.
Would there be any reason I couldn't replace this with a bolt? Why do they use studs instead of bolts?

Less chance of a stud coming loose than a bolt under heat ( hot & cold cycling) & vibes.

Would I be ok to put a couple of bolts in do ya reckon? I have found some torque washers (those spikey f*ckers) to put on them.

you change to bolts when you get extractors so i dont see how it could matter on a standard manifold

a bolt will be easier to cross thread though in the ally head, thats about the only significant difference.

With this topic I'm just wondering what's best to use when putting extractors on, the stock manifold bolts, aftermarket exhaust bolts from exhaust shop or studs??

I use extractor bolts with a regular washer and a spring washer.

the beat way is to use studs but use brass nuts that way they wont rust and lock up using a bolt only use stainless steel bolts they dont rust either

Cheers guys after looking at the studs supercheap had I went to my local exhaust shop and brought extractor bolts and will be getting spring washers tomorrow. While I was there I also brought a couple flanges, gaskets and flange bolts to finish of my exhaust. Just have to extend my cat an inch and weld flanges on either end and it will all be done.
