i recently bought an AU fairmont and went to get a roadworthy done on it. it failed on the 'intermediate muffler rusted out'. i think this means the middle one, the guy who inspected it said an exhaust place can just put a new one in but he didnt know how much it would cost. does anyone know roughly how much, and also if it would be just better off getting a new 2.5" system put in and how much i should pay for that??
any help would be great!

Thanks for that, so theres no real point just replacing the muffler then?
a place called roadway told me $400 fitted for a 2.5" redback system, but if im going to get a whole new system i would like to get it cheaper then that if possible. If i was to fit it myself i would need to get the cat modified as well so i was thinking i may as well get it fitted by someone?

hey funky falcon...i got my exhaust done by the guys at roadway in belconnen n yeah they took $400 all up including tip. I asked around but couldnt get a much better price...belconnen exhaust centre was definitely more $$$, so roadway is the place to go...it took a couple of weeks for teh exhaust to be "bedded In" but it now sounds Sweet....

You get what you pay for.

Mine cost me more for the ute ... no off-the-shelf systems ... pls I have factory LPG ... so I had the get the exhaust custom build to go around the tanks (with correct clearance) ... cos me $450 for a 2.5" press bent catback ... as straight as I could get it without too many bends.

I payed a bit over $200 (fully fitted) for a Lukey mandrell bent system, runs fine on with my LPG system! Although tailpipe went back under warrenty and a press bent system was made due to some minor rubbing.
Get what you pay for is a load of crock, sometimes you get ripped off too. $450 for a press bent system is a rip. I'm positive I could of get a system press bent up for me if I chose to for the same price as the off the shelf Lukey system.

It depends though ... mine's a ute ... there's no off-the-shelf systems for the ute ... also is your's an aftermarket dual-fuel tank in the boot??? Cos mine isn't ... I have the twin underbody-tanks .. and there are clearance restrictions that need to be abided by with exhaust distance from the tanks.

Mines underbody LPG tank, I'l look in the Lukey book tomorrow, but I'm very sure I've seen sports systems avaliable pre done for the utes!

got my lukey cat back for 190 through sprints, most places said they would fit it for 50. BUT if they supply and fit cost was around 350...go figure
