I was thnking about getting a sequential scoop but it got a bit pricey for something that most likely will deliver little to no performance gain on an n/a car. I worked it out if i did it properly (rough prices cant remeber exactly):
Scoop $125 Scoop painted cost $ ??? Box lid $80 Postage $30 Mandrel bent pipe t/b to airbox $200 Pod $90 for a half decent one? Theres at least $500 for a just a cai setup......

Ive got a 3 in pvc pipe going from an opening on the front airdam leading up through a hole i cut in the body under the airbox. This works very well and has given a leaner AR mixture.
Well worth the effor on ANY car |

btw did u dod reading with BOTH the pool hose and the snorkerl? the idea of the extra hose for the ENGINE TO GET MORE AIR not necessary draw more air in.

It will draw more air in if the standard inlet is restrictive.

Ok guys, not many of us are running up around the 180rwkw mark yet Waggin with his 180ish rwkw falcon is still running the std intake snorkel to my knowledge. How restrictive could this possibly be? Go figure that the intake runners on the falcons are around 40mm in dia and at about 5000rpm they will flow at around 280-300ft/sec @ 100% VE. Now Im sure you know that its rather difficult on a std motor to reach this VE so I really cant see the CAI setup increasing that figure a lot when the std intake mouth is far larger than a 40mm dia runner

Sounds very similar to the bloke who posted the doco on FM mk1. As stated, i have 20 odd pics this person posted up originally if anyone wants a gander. OK so im sure we've all sat our hand across the snorkel and had a friend rev the engine. If it's sucking that hard, its being restricted. Exactly chef - AR is the key. At dyno day last year, after watching rich falc after rich falc on the dyno it was suggested we all look into a CAI system (ok, so i went a little overboard...). Flow rates aside, if the air is cooler than what comes thru the snorkel, it will be denser. Denser air = leaner combustion = more power. Never hurts to experiment. Does it?

Yep, the ARs tell the truth...wonder if ther is a simple way of tricking the eec into leaning the mix a tad? Ive done it on mitsubishi turbo ecu's, but not the fords

Can play around with IAT sensors etc. but a bit dodgy and also gets ignored at WOT. Could possibly play around with MAP/MAF signals to throw out load calculations at WOT but once again... a little dodgy. Would be good do have dyno with wideband o2 sensor in carport

Theres always fuel pressure reg if you want to try and make it run leaner. Restrict the fuel slowly bit by bit on a dyno at WOT until its right.

yeah, but I think injector require a certain pressure to keep the spray patterns as the engineers wanted, it is better to decrease injector pulse width.
When my fuel pump was on its way out and its pressure was low, the motor had less power but still ran rich...so I dont think reducing the fuel pressure/volume would lean the mix... worth a try though |

it is possible using two 2" hoses.. run it straight down past the motor then up under the front bar to the air vent, I had this, but took it off as its pretty much a waste of space and time..

Can you explain the difference between how much air the engine sucks and how much air goes through the airbox? I'm pretty damn sure they will be the same. If the duct to the front bumper is a lower pressure than the standard snorkle then less you could actually worsen the pressure drop in your airbox because air will run through the standard snorkle, into the airbox and out the front duct! Instead of building up pressure in the airbox. The only way to check is with a pressure gauge (or water pipe with marks on)! Has anyone measured the pressure drop in the intake manifold before and after certain mods? Want to post results here?
