Im looking at getting some Pacemaker headers for my XH XR6 ute, Ive already got a custom made 2.5" exhaust - my question is will I need a high flow cat or will the stock one be enough (havent had any dramas with it so far). Have had mixed opinions on this so far, any ideas?

If the standard cat is still in good condition it will be fine. You will probably need to get the outstide casing taken off it, and the lead in pipe chopped down a bit though, and new flanges welded on..

When I got my PH4480's fitted, they kept my cat as it was in good condition. For the sake of $350, I don't think its holding back much power.

i replaced mine when i got a system, 11 year old on the original cat.
it had only 125,000km on it, but $880 for 4480's, and a full 2.5in system with hi-flow cat, i wasn't gonna say no.

Just out of curiosity .... what is the internal diameter of a standard cat?
is it narrower than the id of a 2.5" system?

The standard cat inlet outlet looks to be 2" ... maybe 2.25" ... I had a look at mine the other day.
It's slowly gutting itself ... bits are tinkling in the exhaust and I get mad vibration sounds from it as well ... when i get the extractors I'll replace the cat at the same time.

man whats the point off all that money spent on a exhaust if u have a cat that is smaller then the diamiter of the exhaust.
seriously man get your self a 3 inch hi flow cat of ebay, i just got one for 135 bucks. the bigger diamiter pipe the better the flow and the more exhaust gas the cat can take on and flow through faster. if u use your standard cat then you would have wasted your money on the extractors and exhuast. i know this will make some people touchy but its a fact look it up on autospeed site. general rule if you have a 2.5 inch exhaust sytem then get a 3 inch cat. |

I ran the factory cat on my waggin and got 183RWKW N/A. If the cat is in good condition, just get it flanged to suit your 2.5" system. These 3" "hi-flow" cats are rubbish.. the cross section isn't as wide as the factory cat, and they infact flow less. There's more to a cat than its flange ID.
