I would like to know how hot, what temp the extractors are likely to reach on an I6 flacon, cause i want to polish up the extractors and have found a high temp clear gloss that is rated to 650 degrees celsuis
Any idea if this is sufficient? |

Not 100% mate but it'd be pretty close... I know they get F**k hot though... after leaving the car sit for 1/2hr and then changing steering rack over I still burnt myself on them

Yes mate, that will be fine. Exhaust Temps on a N/A six will at a peak upto 220deg cel at the collector on a cast iron exhaust manifold. So you should be fine.

no hope mate, exhaust gas temps will be 800c, if you cruise around, pipe temps will probably stay under that temp, but if you are using WOT for a bit, then expect to see pipe temps hotter than 650c.. thats my opinion anyway.. however, that would be on a decent tuned/flowing engine, with a rich stocker tune and engine, you probably wouldnt have such a big issue

Yeah im intrigued too. i've never seen exhaust paint that doesnt either burn off eventualy or end up horibly discoloured. But that doesnt mean it cant be done. Hope to see a good lookin sealed set of polished extractos soon. Lookin BLOODY GOOD tho.

Yep, Very nice indeed. You'll be spitting chips if it browns up and fades.

Will post results in a few weeks how its going if anyones interested in doing it, just in case it does go funny on me.
Also will point out, dont bother with paint stripper....... it wont budge that baked on s**t. Its all got to come off with sandpaper, makes it harder when theres heaps of coats from previous touch-ups. |

What do you mean 'bounce back'?
Maybe, but i'd thought i'd try and give it a go, plus i done a small section like in the first pic and drove around for a couple of days and it still looked ok, but time will tell i guess |

Even highly polished stainless steel turns yellow/gold colour after a bit, even on a motorbike where its out in the airflow.
