Got a couple of questions. Extractors, I'm not to sure what they are and my friend thinks that I might have some on my falcon, now I'm wondering how I can find out if I do, what do I look for? If I don't have extractors I'm wondering if the are worth getting. Any information on either topic would be very helpful. Thanks in advance

youll know if you have them or not once you look at these pics
these are extractors a.k.a headers they are worth it but only if you get the rest of the exhaust to suit basically they help the engine get the exhaust out of the way easyer and faster

Sort of.
Extractors are a high flow or performance exhaust manifold. Extractors on older cars are sometimes reffered to as headders. Or some people call the standard exhaust manifold headders. But the factory ones are called the exhaust manifold. |

Thank you for the information. Going by what you said and my interpretatIon of your picture I have scrap metal haha. Would it be wise to look at extractors and a exhaust system to go with it?

in a word YES
most extractors will not fit to a factory exhaust and for a extra 200 you can get a 2.5 inch system fitted altho you can reuse you factory cat if you want to save money but itll be better with a 100 cell high flow cat with matching inlet to the extractors and out let to the rest of your exhaust then again you can do what i did and ditch the cat all together but thats a big NO NO have a look at some pics in my garage of my el http://www.fordmods.com/the-garage-f53/jfks-garage-tickford-elxr6-5spd-t102581.html

The term "extractors" used to be used exclusively for performance exhaust manifolds that generally had a common collector (i.e. 4-1) but these days it is pretty much synonymously used with header or exhaust manifold.
Pretty much essential if you intend to do any performance modifications to you car as the factory manifold is terrible. Despite what people say if you fit headers onto a standard exhaust it will still be noticably better than stock, and seeing as you are on your P's you have a better chance of getting away without a fine.

You won't have got a new manifold for $550.
Prices I would expect to pay new: $500 for headers (or whatever you want to call them) $300 for cat back $200 for a cat (or they can modify your standard one) Personally I would get headers and get them to modify your standard cat and keep your standard exhaust, or if you are going to get a different exhaust get a 2.5" system with two mufflers. I wouldn't listen to them saying it is a "race" system, just them trying to get you to buy it (probably a one muffler system as well). Off the shelf your best exhaust options are probably redback or lukey systems. I would go two mufflers though as will stick out like dogs balls as being modified otherwise (and if auto drones through first like a mother f**k).

If your getting pacemakers or JMM extractors, a high performance cat & the rest an off the shelf 2.5" like a lukey or redback, you would be looking in the ball park of $900 to 1000 for all new stuff. If you can pickup the extractors second hand you can save yourself some cash. I managed to pick my extractors up s/h, in almost new condition for $150 (retail close to 4x that price), I run a vn-vt commodore ac delco cat converter as it is flanged both ends (think it's 2.5" as well), and fairly cheap, then 2.5" pipe & straight thru sports muffler which cost $180 to be done, and a redback rear section in 2.5" with a resonator. That cost $110. With a few new rubbers & gaskits, it come in under $500. Cheers ToranaGuy
