hi
what size diameter and length do primary and secondary pipes need to be on extractors to suit a ea-au ford 6 cyl. what setups better for the collectors |

How long is a piece string. Most EA-AU extractors follow a pretty standard Tri-Y design with minor differences with either 41mm or 38mm primaries and 51mm secondaries to a 64mm outlet, the Pacie PH4480's with 38mm primaries differ in that they are tunned lenght so a different pipe layout. 38mm primaries will help keep torque lower in the rev range while the 41mm will move the torque up in the rev range with better high rev flow. JMM do a race series with 38mm primaries and longer secondaries that extend all the way to the front pipe where the cat would normally bolt on, apparently good for low down torque and a broad power band.
Most people will tell you that extractors by them self will not give major gains but in combination with other mods more power gains are possible. It all depends on what you mods you have and what you are using the car for.

It varies.
If you are planning on making your own you will be pissing in the dark unless you know the physics behind it.

JMM race series primaries from 1-6 are 50,40,37,42,36 and 31cm with the secondaries 55 and 69cm.
My Wildcat 21X are 47,41,34,43,36 and 38cm with the secondaries 20 and 30cm.

I find the microwave doesnt heat evenly, better to use a normal oven.
Pre heat to 220 degrees celsius, garnish the extractors with a light coat of WD-40, and bake for 6 days at 180 degrees. Or 180 days at 6 degrees, which ever is easier. Baste with Mobil 1, using a small brush, every 17.6 hours. Good luck.

As an honest answer though, don't copy either design. All off the shelf headers are made to suit the broad range of applications they have to cover (i.e. pacemaker has one they advertise as down low and one for mid-high).
If you are going to the trouble of making your own headers I can guarantee if you research and match it to your application you will get better results than by copying. Note that there is a lot of reading involved if you choose to pursue this method; I would recommend buying a set second hand as you will pay less than you will for materials to make them.

If he wants to build a set of extractors at least that is achievable unlike a complete car rebuild in 10 days End of rant |
