Today while driving home, i had my dog in the car with me. I was sitting at the highway with the cruise on set at 110km/h. Any way my dog can't stay still for longer then 1 minute and she jumped into the front knocking the t-bar into Neutral.
Subsequently the revs shot up to 5000 rpm within 1.5 seconds so i turned the cruise off f**k quickly. The car seems alright.... could any damage have been done?

Wouldn't have thought so. Have done the same thing with my XH. Set the cruise in 4th and then relised I wasn't in 5th and absent mindedly went to change gears...........oops!

this is why cars come out with rev limiters. So it wont do any damage

There is a real slight lag (bout 1/2 a second) between hitting the clutch and the revs dropping off

If it made it home it will be fine. I remember when a mate was driving my car and went from 4th to first. revs bounced on the limiter, huge lockup.....scared the s**t outa me but it lived to see another day

when I first got my BA, I clicked the SSS up instead of down. Hit the limiter but no problems, And I have the engine up to 5000 around once a week so as long as it isn't as bad as the way my EA was, should be nothing, might have possibly helped clean some muck out of the engine.

I've hit 6500 in my corty a couple of times...
First time the flywheel came loose! It might have went further than 6500... but the factory tach only went to 6 or 6.2, and it kept on revving! Only time I've really had anything go badly wrong was the time I bought a 4spd XC with over 300thou on the clock. Holding it flat in first, with a 350holley and extractors, would do about 60km in first... with 3.23 diff gears. For the third set of treads I fitted a tacho, and found out it was revving out to 6500 to do 60km in first! Spat number one rod that day! Just after I dropped it into 2nd... If only id tried 2nd from the start..!

You guys are forgetting one thing, an engine at 5k underload is nothing, but free revving is a different story altogether.
For that short amount of time i doubt you would have done any damage. |

For that short amount of time i doubt you would have done any damage. I never new the potential of damage caused to free reving and engine. Is it because of the sudden change in speed putting stress on the engine?
