Does anyone know the layout of the Factory EB2-SXR6 Exhaust? I am 95% sure it was the only XR6 to receive a specially made exhaust from factory.
I think i was twin 2 1/4 exiting through single 2.5? I heard this combination provides an optium amount of back pressure whilst still maintaining the required amount of free flow. I assume this would now have to be custom made. Anyone have experiance running the factory EB XR6 exhaust? Also interested if anyone had changed from factory and say installed a single 2.5, what were the results

Also interested if anyone had changed from factory and say installed a single 2.5, what were the results yeah the EBs had twin centre pipes and front mufflers, i dont know of the sizes though, where i believe in the ED it was similiar to standard falcons but 2.5" But i dont know what its like, i bought mine with a redback 2.5" catback so cant help u there, it needs replacing, ill just get another redback system though i think.

there is no such thing as optimal back pressure, engine dont run on back pressure and pressure that impedes exhaust flow does not help the engine run.
You want a system with optimal flow and gas speed in the rpm range that suits the power curve and the way you drive. back pressure above that rpm range is a by product and not somthing you should try and build into a system. |

What about it? You still don't design looking for backpressue, it is a by-product of other design factors and of no use to a car engine.

Thanks for that. Now in saying this is there anyone who has changed from a Factory EBSXR6 exhaust to a aftemarket 2.5 single? What was the outcome? My RPM range I drive in mainly is between 1,500rpm - 3,500rpm. Its a school shuttle bus... I was thinking along the lines of a 2.5 redback, one centre muffler, hotdog at back. for somethin not too loud. Would you recommend this? This worked well on a EB 5spd wagon I had once ,no drone suprisingly. Car currently has a new 2 1/4 single standard system. Is also manual - and has no note at all!

In saying all of that, for the average person in the market for a bit extra go from a basically stock engine, the exhaust suppliers have it pretty right. Your off the shelf the 2.5 inch system is what you want, you just need to work out how much noise you want.
Personally I believe the topic is debated far to often and each point of the debate is taken way to far. There will always be trade offs, but with the power most people have the trade offs are very minimal. |
