Hi guys I'm looking for a bit of help, how would I go about fixing the leak on the power steering pump? (I've never worked on cars before) should I be taking the p/s pump off its mounts? If any one knows about this problem and could help that would be awesome.
Also I've heard that the power steering fluid leaking on the alternator causes it to break, atm the alternator is covered in power steering fluid but is still working, how should I go about cleaning it ? (Probably not a good idea to spray it with degreaser... Right?) |

Sounds like your high pressure hose is leaking. If it's the original hose with the pivoting joint at the power steering (P/S) pump, then it is wise to get that replaced. If you have never worked on a car before, my advice would be to take it to a mechanic or P/S specialist to have a look at it and replace it for you.
If it has Speed Sensitive Power Steering (SSPS), then you will need a SSPS high pressure hose, rather than the standard high pressure hose. Refer to THIS ebay link for the correct one. It has an extra kink on the steering rack end to clear the SSPS sensor. It is doable on your own, but can be hard if you can't get to the nut on the steering rack end. If you want to learn, find someone who is willing to help you change it. Hope that helps.
