im thinking too tall to clear the steering rack maybe? or weight distribution? lol now that i think about it there're a few reasons for doing it, but still there's a lot of empty space to fill there so theres enough space for the massive intercooler brooo. nah i think its for weight, when going that extream on a car, it aids traction and handling by transposing weight from the front to the back...

lol yeah, it has independant front and rear motors
nah think the main reason is weight distribution and handling, by having the c.o.g. in the middle of the car (or closer to) you get better steering response (i think less likely to understeer) and in a traga rally car thats kinda critical. the other would be weight distribution as i imagine the i6 blcok is a lot heavier than the standard 4pot which i imagine would be alloy. |

yeh cool thought so,
but im pretty sure a 2nd tranvers donk is much more appropriate than handling pssh who needs to steer? but yes! be wicked to see this thing in action

With a heavy engine in a light car its all the more important to put the engine in the right place, otherwise the weight distribution is really s**t. Imagine what it would be like if the engine was fully forward in the focus - possibly 65:35. And the front suspension would need considerable beefing up.
But maybe they should have put it on rails so you can roll it forward to get to the plugs?

yeah they had some system in place, cos the guy reckoned it wasnt that hard to get the engine out to do plugs etc.

Quote: But whilst on topic of I6 engines and drag racing. Why on earth is it that I see more and more VL turbo's these days running deep into the 8's (on a 10.5" tire and stock rear suspension) and our 4litre motors seem to be only good for a high 9. I know of one case of a 3.3 xflow turbo pulling a mid 8 in a TD cortina (with a competition 4 link rear end and 11" rubber) but I'm yet to see similar performance from the mighty 4.0 even though on paper the 4.0 craps all over the tiny little 3.3. Both in torque and HP. Is this where a target rpm range comes into play or something?
As said a few times, it has a 4 inch stroke, The thing that makes the 4ltr is also its downfall. Plus as well the whole length of the motor. The VL's are quite a few years old and having a parts database with almost every RB 6 as well, makes it easy. I reckon give it 5 years when you can buy a BA 6 for 500 bucks, Alot more conversions will be succesfully done, Im waiting to see one done in a esky. 8 secs and street legal.

Ah dude, i think there is no way under the sun or even on the damn sun i could get a Ford I6 into my esky, well in no way street legal. The true road registered esky, the Suzuki Mighty Boy! With a tub about as big as a good esky! I reckon the Focus has a panel on the trans / engine tunnel that can be unbolted to get to the spark plugs & so on. It would be the way i'd do it. Maybe that's what the stainless / chrome panel is on the drivers side of the tunnel in the pic??? Cheers ToranaGuy
