installed a manual computer in my car the other week so everything should be normal and noticed that the cooling fans only kick in to a higher speed around 105 oC. i noticed this when my car started getting hot through trafic and i found temp gauge was well over half way and fans only spinning slowly. befor with auto computer my fans run constant at mid speed and temp never rose past 94 oC even throught traffic on a hot day. what im getting at is 105 oC is a little to late to be starting to cool the car down? some on told me their falcon kicked the fans in at second speed at 95 oC.

my colling system is A1 as well and fans running ok but just kicking in at higher temp.

MODE 1 = fan1 1400rpm fan2 1400rpm @ 80 oC
MODE 2 = fan1 2300rpm fan2 1900rpm @ 105 oC
MODE 3 = fan1 2300rpm fan2 2300rpm ??

why leave it to 105 oC to kick in mode 2?

i just wired in a few thing to the relays so mode 2 can be operated with a switch when ever require keeping the car operating temp down to 90- 95 oC and hopefully saving the head from any problems.

only thing that i can think of, is that because the auto cars have load while in d (tourque convertor), they need constant cooling? whereas the manual isnt under load at idle, its just free spinning, correct me if im wrong though

Yeah it's to keep the auto trans cool. Engine will run fine at 105 deg with manual. If it starts getting hotter then start to worry.

Sounds like a good idea there voids.

Does EEC still have control of the fans and you have manual override? Or do you have to run the show entirely?

Would be easy enough to just hook a switch into the fan relay, to force them on leaving the EEC in control. I'd add a diode into the EEC's wire to prevent the reverse current potentially destroying the EEC. But very doable.

i just run a relay off of the ignition barrel, on the "run" location, so as soon as its running both fans are spinning at full speed, i have no problems like that and it doesnt take to long to get up to operating temp (maybe about 10mins of driving), i have thought about using the ecc to control the thermos but as my eb is a ser 1 and has no smartlock i cant use the el ecu :(

the ECCv switches negetive to the fan relays positive comes from ignition so back feed isnt too much of a issue all it is is just a switch that allows you to overide the ecc v's signal to the relays forcing boath fans to run at higher speed with the flick of a switch the ecc can still turn the fans to high speed if temp gets really hot. it dosen't effect the running of the system at all just a button to speed up your fans.

i can provide a wiring diagram if anyone wants it quite easy only took me about an hour to wire it in.
just have to draw one up.

Crappy pic i know. but the idea is to activate relay 2 and 3. and to also interupt signal to relay 4 at the same time. this can be doen with a swith with 2 sets of normally open contacts and a set normaly closed or you can use 3 switches. or if you have the time and patients you cau use a relay with 2 NO sets of contacts and a set of NC contacts.

relay 4 serves a function for slow speeed

i used a length of 4 core cable and 2 switches and made connections at the relays.

hope this helps some one.
