Hi I'm new to this site and would like some advice. I have a 3.9 CFI EA 3 speed auto Falcon that is mildly worked over (iridiam sparks, top gun leads, pod filter, mobile 1 oil, high volume fuel pump, chrome rocker cover, MP3 player, and the guts knocked out of the cat). Now I want to take it out to Calder Park drags for a bit of a run. I want to know if it will go muck faster if I take off the aircon belt. My mate at TAFE reckons it should knock off about .25 of a second for the run as there will be less drag on the old donk. I'm hoping for low 15s and want to know if you guys reckon its worth going to the ectra trouble of pulling (cutting acutally)off the AC belt, or even the power steer belt as well (hey I'm only driving straight).
My other thought to go a bit faster would be to let the tyres down to about 15psi, my theory here is that it will decrease the rolling diamter of the wheels, therefor lowering the whole final drive ratio, hence hoping to drop another half a second off my ET. Would this work?

Just take it out and have some fun. With a near stock car lower the tyre pressure won't help.
15's will cost more money and mods I am afraid |

Man I'm afraid you'll be lucky to get low 16's.
If you want your car to go faster convert it to Mulitpoint Injection and a 5-speed manual - then you'll get your 15's. |

mate i wouldnt even bother disconnecting the aircon belt and power steering... i mean seriously why? you would be lucky to get an extra .1
letting down the tyres would put more tyre surface to the road hence more grip and more drag. I HIGHLY doubt you would have traction problems so if i was you i would pump them up. but still, why bother? maybe to get a 16.99?? Im not dissin ya mate, but go down anyway and have a heap of fun! You have to start from somewhere! |

Not much of a point running optimax unless you decide to advance your timing (or am I thinking multipoint???)
Either way...before my new clutch, i was getting 15.3 so i don't think you've got much of a chance getting out of the 17s. Give it a go anyway....next mods might want to be exhaust and maybe extractors. They'll give you about .5 of sec if you're lucky.

Yeah my mate made some ducting for me out of old VB cans, duct tape and mums old vacuum cleaner hose. Made it go much faster, because we put the pod filter behind the radiator fan so we thought it might be like a poor mans supercharger. You know, like forced induction. And we thought because the air is already warm behind the radiator, the car should go even faster cos the engine wont have to warm it up.

What!!! Naa dude seriously get rid of that, the whole idea of a pod filter setup is so it can force COLD AIR into the engine. Having it setup like you have will limit the performance even more and you will be very lucky to get a low 17 if that!!!!
Move it and put it somewhere where it can suck in cold air, if its too hard just surround it with heat shield so its not sucking in hot air from the engine bay, believe me this is what you should have done! Good Luck

Oh s**t, thanks dude.
OK what about I get one of those old styrofoam eskies and fill it with party ice, then run the vacuum cleaner hose (my intake duct) into the side of the esky. Obviously I'd put a bit of chicken wire over it so it wouldn't suck in any ice. Would this give me more power as the air would be very cold? It would also be great as I could leave my cans of Woody in there too.
