Hi guys a fellow fordmods member and good mate of mine has a 95 EF XR6 Manual and needs to know what hes lookin to pay for a full rebuild (head and bottem end) hes had a quote from a mob here in canberra of 3 grand hows that sound ???

After getting it serviced at a local ford dealer they gave him a list of the below that he needed to fix.

tappet cover gasket leaking oil
power steering pump leeking oil
coolant leek between head and block
speedo transducer leaking oil
All the welsh plugs need replacing

So hed like to just have themotor rebuilt...has done around 260,000kms

His clutch is also screwed....its heavy as and sliding into gears isnt so good any more....plus no matter what you do putting it into reverse WILL crunch..

Hes had the clutch cable replaced not that long ago but by the sounds of things time for a new clutch and rebuild the internals of the pedal box

Just a basic rebuild?

if hes going a basic rebuild on everythign then lol dont both can almost buy another car for the cost of it all. If hes keen on the car tell him to spend some cash now and get a nice big strong bottom end rebuild some mild head work and the clutch grab another xr and should go a bit better. Whats his budget and hopes for the car?

At the moment he doesnt care to much about the performance he just wants all the leaks etc fixed and the clutch especially cause it makes driving a pain

His budget for the lot is $4K

Just he didnt wanna have to travel to sydney for bottom end work from ITS and then to VIC to JMM for headwork....too much muckin around to save money

So anyone have any other ideas or know the costs ?

Mate you can buy a late model AU engine for $1200 with all accessories why bother? A higher mile'r for less... I'll try and get Phone number etc..
