Ok, i Bought a fg XR6 right. figured it was time to upgrade.
now what..
one of my mates said that the exhaust was a pain in the a** to do, would it be worth it?
im interested to know, if any of you guys from experience have owned a fg and done it up..

essentially i was after a few upgrades i gathered which are good.
Intake,
Zorst,
new ECU,
and finally, new cams.
anything im missing?

You don't need a new ecu. Just a retune for the later models.
Exhaust shouldn't be too hard to do yourself if you wanted to. Although i think they may be a little pricey? Check out your local exhaust shop for extractors, cat, zorst package.
Should make some good power once the mods you listed are done.

Cheers

Sam

Yeah tell you what stepping from an EF into a FG, was crazy, the amount of power Stock, it has was insane.

so simple
Retuned ECU
New Cams and
Extractors/ Catback

sounds easy enough, i still think im up for about 4K regardless, Inc flash tune

I'd say you're looking at a bit more than that with the tune.
You probably want to get the exhaust and intake sorted, chuck the cams in and get it dyno tuned to get it running perfect.

Cheers

Sam

hi mate, just a note that if you do the exhaust its going to need a tune anyway as the check engine light will come on, due to incorrect o2 readings. on my g6e ive done the full exhaust, air intake and generic tune. cost breakdown was roughly;

$300 - extractors and hi flow cat - ebay
$350 - manta twin 2.5 inch stainless exhaust - ebay
$100 - installation of exhaust
$900 - generic tune and flash tuner from bpt motorsport
$165 - fg v8 modified air intake with removed restrictor

so if you keep your eyes open for bargains and are prepared to stack parts aside and slowly accumulate them, it is possible to get it done cheap. all up the exhaust and air intake cost me $1815, and i recouped some of it by selling the stock parts that were removed.

yeah the mags were something i was heaps keen on, but the pick up/power is great, i havent had it dyno'd yet, so i cant comment on power.
Really what i want out of it would be, a nice deep note, little bit more power (as if ya need much more).
figure i should save some $$ first

if i wer you id be payin close attention to the dude with the 13 sec n/a xr6.
Thats a extreamly respectable time for a unopend 6pot.
My v8 ran a best of 14.30 but that was on cheap fuel and untuned.. so the shift points wer all over the place.

OK, First thing to do is take the top of the air box off and piss of the restrictor then go on ebay and buy the ftg xr8 bottom air box and snorkel about $190 posted then get a k&n air filter that will give you a better induction note, the i would get a flash box and get it custom tuned, the tune wont give you a great deal of power but it will improve drivability alot (with fg's with the 6 speed auto even though say at 100km/h you only put in 30% throttle the computer realy puts in about 70% to make it feel more grunty and there's quite alot of torque management to edit out
i reacon you would be happy with that it will get you a low 14 sec pass if you want more of a note get the middle muffler taken out it wont make it much louder but will give it a note if you can't be bothered to mess around with the exhaust if you can get a 3'' with a realy good cat and nothing less then pacemaker 4495 headers, don't get a 2.5'' exhaust it's too small if you want it to go hard
as for a LSD i'd go with a harrop tru track center and some 3.27:1 gears not cheap but mega fun  at the moment my car has done a 13.6 sec pass and now when i put my diff gears in and a blue power intake and retune i should be able to get a 12 with out too much trouble
