hi
to fit the au engine into your ef you use the ef manifold. the harder part is the sump. you can either cut and re box the front section of the k frame or get the front of the au sump cut and alloy welded.. you can use the ef bellhousing but there are a couple of bolts that dont line up on the bottom of it. or an au belhousing will bolt onto an ef box.. otherwise the rest is fairly straight forward.. |

Thanks Troyman so is the AU sump bigger and needs to be cut down cheers Alan

Will the existing ef engine mounts bolt up the the au block? if using a au alternator, which drive belt do i run? au or ef. is the bellhousing, sump, alternator the only things that are different? |

Ive chatted to 2 people who have done this conversion but 1 was a EL and both had pinging problems when run on petrol for some reason, any ideas why guys???

didnt ask if they were running premium unleaded so maybe that will fix the problem or for a EF to get a chip from TI with LPG ignition maps????
Funny this is both ran ok on LPG

Have just started pulling my AU engine apart for this transplant myself. I have read Troyman's suggestions and xr_lane thread and they have some great suggestions and ideas. I bought the AU bellhousing with my engine for an extra $30 so that will save some stuffing around. The above installs cover most things. I run lpg most of the time so the AU Intech's higher compression ratio will suit the lpg's higher octane. Pinging is possible on standard unleaded but I would have expected the knock sensor to keep it to a minimum. I have decided to cut my sump as I have a mate who welds alloy. I still haven't decided what to do with the cam angle sensor. The cmp on both cars are different but the principle is the same. The EF uses a 3 wire sensor which produces a 12V square wave and the AU is a 2 wire unit that is Hall effect and produces a pulse. I could just fit the EF cmp sensor to the AU engine (into the old dizzy hole) but I'd like to see if it's possible to manufacture a circuit to use the AU's Hall effect pulse and convert it to a 12v square wave. I'm not sure if it's worth the effort but I'll do some tinkering and see what I come up with.

Now i am confused i thought you had just to change inlet manifold and sort the sump ot now theirs a sensor as well? can some one let me know what is needed to change theirs the sump weld or cut the k frame change the inlet manifold and the alternator is this all that needs to be changed or is their now a sensor? thanks

You also need to install the synchronizer 180 deg, as the locking lever hole is on the other side. either way, it still sits TDC its just the plug that sits 180

synchroniser is the EF dizzy, its a cam angle sensor. tells the ecu when its on a compression stroke.

the cam angle sensor is also known as the synchronizer in ef..
the crank angle sensor is on the front of the timing case just above the crank pulley. the synchroniser is on the intake manifold side of the engine.. if you have seen an eb engine? this goes where the distributor goes on eb.. |
