This must be my third thread today, lol.
Anyway, I was having a poke under the car recently, and I noticed from the cat backwards the exhaust is all really simple enough. Everything looks to just bolt on from the cat back. My question is, is it worth it to buy an exhaust from the cat back off the shelf and install it yourself? And is it easy? Plus do exhaust shops sell mounting brackets to make it sit closer to the chasis (and further from the road, I have pedders sports ryders going on eventually) So, could I do it? Thanks for help.

its a bit of a prick of a thing to do and to get right, unless you have some nice tall car stands, and a lot of patience and time.

Getting it over the diff is easy enough if the rear is high enough, i used ramps on rear and stands on the front. i had to shorten the brackets by around 20mm as i recently lowered the car with superlows. Why do Ford exuasts sit so low!!!

Its actually really easy if you have a hoist or a pit. I did my friends Fairmont over a pit and it was all really simple just unbolt it all an reuse all the rubbers and centre muffler bracket off the old exhaust. Getting it over the diff requires twisting of the exhaust but its really simple to do

i did it in my driveway with stands, was a C*** of a job and took 6 hours of stuffing around cos it kept hitting the floor/diff (was secondhand though), ended up cracking the s**t and getting an exhaust shop to fix it. Never agian, unless i have a pit/hoist

Hmmm, well I could buy some ramps, but unfortunately we have no pit. Don't think dad would be thrilled if I dug a huge hole in the front lawn, lol.
Are there exhaust places that sell say a lukey 2.5 cat back system cheap off the shelf? What kind of dough are we talking about?

Yeah Carline Mufflers sell a Lukey cat back exhaust for around $250. Thats 2.5 inch with only a centre muffler and they sound sweet as.

Hmmm, considering people say you can get one for roughly 300 installed, that isn't so good. Not to mention I want something up the rear to keep it at a normal volume. Would have to be cheaper than that, and in Brisbane, lol.

I put in walker. Think i paid $160 for the front resonator/muffler and the rear resonator.

i thought id add my 2 cents, so long as ur car isnt lowered u can do it on a level surface with ease, its how i did mine, remove tail pipe from rubber mounts, unbolt from center pipe, use force to get out (takes time) unbolt center pipe from cat, remove, fit new center pipe, then fit new tail pipe, then start up and enjoy new note (approx 1 - 3 hrs later depending on removal of 2 pipes )

Hmmm, sounds like I could save over $100 with luck, so I'll definately give it a go soon. Probably best to knock it over before i lower it guess.
