hi guys, my temperature gauge never gets in the low normal its always in the cold area and i think thats whats doing the fuel effiency.
whats the gauge supposed to read, it seems to take a while to warm up as the heater takes a while to work, sometimes more than 5 minutes. just wondering if a new thermostat will fix the fuel effiency. i was thinking of getting a new thermostat(92 degrees) at the same time as the thermo fan conversion later. sometime it uses more fuel than factory spec, its probably not major but why |

what car, what's your fuel consumption and what's the condition of the engine. Also any modifications to the car?

URGENT
well my car is a ed fairmont 6 cyl and it runs very quiet, dome 210000 kms but runs like a car that hasnt done many mks only change is a ea mpfi pipe then adding thermo fans and will a thermostat change hurt as sometimes the heater takes a while to work |

If you're worried about your fuel consumption (depending how high it is) replace some of the sensors that you may have not yet changed. Such as your O2 sensor and maybe MAP sensor.
Replace the leads/spark plugs if need be and yes you should change the thermostat if it hasn't been done before either. phong =P~

how much will a new o2 sensor and map sensor be
i dont know if its the map sensor as i cant see smoke blowing out the exhaust unless you can tell me otherwise. ive thought about the oxy sensor what else could it be besides leads/plugs im doing the thermo fan conversion anyway. how much improvement in fuel effiency will i get in thermo fan conversion (just interested) and how much difference will a kandn performance panel filter make (just interested). ive put the ea mpfi pipe on instead of the ed one going to the throttle body so will that make much difference, that alone seems to rev a little smoother |

if your car is not getting to operating temperature replacing the oxygen sensor will do nothing at all, as the pcm is not using the o2 sensor readings to determine fuel mixtures. It only does this at operating temperature.
most likely cause is a sticky thermostat, best to replace it, and if that returns the car to operating temperature you will be amazed at the results. also worth noting, even if going 'back' to the ea pipe seemed to make it rev smoother, rest assured it wouldnt have been changed from EA to EBII/ED if there wasnt a positive effect from doing so. |

change thermostat, most likely it's stuck open. That should help you out.
Depending on when the 02 sensor was replaced it might not be a bad idea to change it as well. up to you though.

thermostat, ecu is keeping the engine in open loop mode.

The other reason, possibly, is if the clutch on the fan is faulty, causing the fan to always run at full speed. Does the car sound like a plane all the time?
