did it kickdown when you went to WOT? I dont know what part of the auto does this but sometimes if the pressure is right on the throttle it doesnt kick down but the revs increase 300 odd rpm, as if there was a gear 3.5... think it might be the torque converter that does this? Dont know much about auto's so clarification would be nice...

yep mine does that in 3rd, it usually drops 300rpm, kind of like a 3.5th yeah lol, almost like an overdrive in 3rd :?

then it needs a fair bit of throttle to get out of that "overdrive", in that time it sits on the same revs and labours like f**k, then the huge power rush comes on lol.

and what does WOT mean?

After a quick scan through the posts . . . I think the torque converter has a lock-up clutch operating on third and fourth gears. Maybe the 300rpm rev increase is due to it unlocking. If so seems inappropriate somehow.

another question id like to ask...

are tickford motors supposed to have a cam whine so loud i can hear it above the exhaust and stereo? :?

have you recently changed the cam or cam chain?
and if so has been making that noise since the cam was fitted?

i would be concerned about the whine.
as it could be a few things. if the chain tension wasnt released when the cam was fitted the cam chain will be extremely tight. causing the chain guide to chew out..
also it can put undue stress on the auxillery shaft which will cause complete failure..

here is a link to what can happen..

What was the fix for this? My car is doing this exact same thing, misses and has a flat spot around 2000 - 3000 rpm.. goes away when I hit WOT..

Car had new coil, dizzy (+ TPI) and leads last year, new plugs a couple of months ago... Just fitted 3.45's a few weeks ago, and got back today from a week and bit trip to QLD, so it was reving around 2300+ most of the time, and making itself really noticeable!

Who's a good diagnostic person or shop in ACT?

Might take it to Belconnen Ultratune tomorrow.. I've got a bit of a rattle from the front of the engine too.. shouldn't be tensioner, looked alright when we did the cam (yes finally fitted my cam after 18 months, goes very well :D )

Yeah my car has the same thing, mine will get to about 2000 and it wont rev any harder unless you put ur foot down more and then all a suden bang there heaps of power. I have takin apart my dizzy and cleaned it, new plugs, new leads, many fuel cleanings sytem additives which havn't done anything and a new fuel filter. I really think that one of the injectors has s**t it self or its very blocked.

Dropped in at UltraTune, only to find they've all gone soft, and only interested on expesive oil changes for new model car servicing... Yet they used to brag about having diagnostic equipment, and fault finding. All in the past now.

Am reluctant to use DYNO TUNE in Belconnen, they put the air filter on backwards on a mates 325i when they did some work on it... Dunno who else there is, Autotech in Fyshwick have moved, and not sure where in Hume they are now!
