so whats the correct tension in NM? yeh youve got it... do em up til they break, then back off half a turn ie back to where they were tight again if your breaking them, is there something in the bottom of the holes? oil, grease? anything that could cause hydraulic lock? they shouldnt break at 110nm.. -mitch

use a bit of brake clener spray some in the hole and it will dry up any oil and stuff

If you haven't got a thread locker with your bolts, use Loctite 262 or similar.

The flywheel bolt holes in an AU crank are a fair bit shorter than in previous cranks and require special shorter bolts. Its possible the bolt is bottoming out and snapping.
Are you using the AU specific bolts, or trying to use your existing EB bolts? |

1989 - 2005 use the exact same bolt

Well i just rang up ford..
AU = 75NM EB = 115NM I also got him to check on the computer and they both have the exact same flywheel and bolts so why the tension change between years?

If they look into microcat they will see the bolt has been superceeded a couple of times. I have been in the situation where microcat gave the me 'right' flywheel bolt, but it didnt suit the application. A little investigation into the part found that microcat was wrong. Obviously there has been a torque setting change and that we didnt know about, and that would be the problem. |

In the link I posted earlier, the torque variations were substantial depending on the grade of bolt, hence the other reply where it has been said that there are a number of bolt types.
Might be best to talk to an engine reconditioner/rebuilder and ask them, and ask what they do when fitting a falcon flywheel. And let us know what the reply is . . . . . .
