Yeah dont forget to buy a gasket with the thermostat as well, then drain a bit of coolant out then unbolt the 2 bolts where the thermo housing is then you should find old thermostat. Take of put gasket down then new Thermostat. Also while you are at it get an "AU Falcon" thermostat instead as I have been told they run better than the "EL" ones. Anyway I am running an "AU" one at the moment and she runs sweet. But yeah as waggin said a Hot engine is a Healthy engine but not an Overheated one obviously!

So far i have understood that these things could help
1- flush radiator and re-add coolent
2- change thermostat

Are there other factors that will give abnormal cooling ? like water pumps, older hoses , i checked my 2 fans, they seem to be both working ok . anything else?

Basically if the water pump works, it works. So long as a hose is still intact it will be fine, just watch out for old/damaged hoses as these can "let go" at any time. The thermofans are used mainly in traffic conditions - at 60km/hr and above the air the car is moving through will exceed the airflow produced by the fans.

Worth noting, a radiator flush additive will help when you do a coolant change but is nothing compared to what a radiator shop will do - remove the side tanks and clean s**t out of the core of the radiator.

Yeah dont forget the gasket for the themostat housing

ohh i forgot to ask , if a really screwed up cat converter can cause a rise in temperature?

My cat is puring , i can hear a hole or something .. can that cause a rise in engine temp ,?

I disagree with allthat BS I recon an 88 Degree thermostat and a 3 core radiator, the cooler the better, Its heat in the engine which does mor damage, especially if you get a hot spell you put teh air con on and watch your temp increase. (37 degree and more), the radiator hoses pop engine cooks or head gasket blows.

another thing is the thermostat will open and close according to the coolant temp.

the more air passing throught rediator will cool it down,,then the thermostat will close a little to raise the temp of the coolant,,and visa versa,,the warmer the coolant the more the thermostat will open.

Yeah same thing goes for my EL, except only with 1 kid in the car.... a 14 year old.

ir remember when the EF first come out they done a experiment hooked a falcon on a dyno in a special room to simulate it sitting on 110KM/h towing a 1000kg load in 45degree heat, it ran for over 24hours without a problem. if your original cooling system is maintained properly you should'nt have dramas with overheating.

Funnily enough I just had a cooling system service done on my car today.. ~$690 later ouch.

My radiator was running around the O and R on most days (say 30 degrees). Rad was 30-40% clogged according to my mechanic who showed me the old top tank.. had about 3-4" of solid (read cement-like) sediment in the top right corner opposite the inlet.

Shagged water pump. (corroded inlet)
Shagged (buldging+split) bottom rad hose.
Shagged top radiator hose (wasnt sealing).
Shagged top tank. (corroded plastic and full of sediment)
New thermostat housing and gasket

I'd hate to think what my core looked like before the radiator was cleaned out today

On the way home the temp never went above half way A, hovered mostly on L but it also was a fairly cool day too so...
