SWC wrote: So if you had no spark at No1 and spark at No6, then swapped leads at the coil, then you got spark at No1 and none at No6, then you have a stuffed lead. i was thinking the same thing, and was going to say something, then stopped and thought about it. if he swapped at the coil, it means the leads stay on the same plug, so #1 had no spark, then swapped at coil and the same lead had spark, so not a lead.

I am assuming that he swapped them at the plugs at the same time. OP did you swap leads at the plug at the same time you swapped at the coil.

i only swapped the leads at the coil i didnt bother swapping them at the plugs seeing all the leads and plugs and coil pack are brand new.

If you swapped the leads only at the pack and then got spark at No1 then yes your leads are ok. As I said, EF Coils are wasted spark. Which also means that 1 & 6 fire a spark at the same time, so if they fail you get no spark at 1 & 6. 1 & 6, 2 & 5, 3 & 4 all fire in those pairs. There is an activation wire in the plug for each of these pairs. Unless there is someting amiss with the coil itself you should have spark at No1 if you have it a No6.

yer right, well its weird as hell seeing that theres spark at 6 but not 1 and the coil pack being brand new ? could the new coil pack be faulty? would a sensor have any play in this problem?

There is no sensor that will affect the spark. 1 & 6 fire a spark at the same time. Either there is an issue with where the lead plugs in or the coil is stuffed.

I agree with swc,
and now you say you changed plugs , leads and coil pack again and still no spark on that cyl?? are you replacing them with brand new parts or using second hand bits off a wreck?? if no 6 is sparking then the coil out put on 1 should be as well.. if its a wiring fault you wont have spark on both 1 and 6.. are you sure its got no spark?? and it isn't a mechanical fault? |

Sorry for hijacking an old post but I'm in a similar position only difference is that I don't have spark to cylinders 1 & 3. My car is a 1996 EF Falcon - 6 cylinders. So far, I have replaced with a new coil pack, new plugs, new leads and tried another ecu. A new cam angle sensor is on its way via post. From what I have read on the forum, the ecu could be getting the wrong reading from a sensor and providing no spark to the coil pack. Tested the coil pack with no readings on 1 & 3 with a multi meter. Pulled out the leads and no spark either to confirm. I'm stumped by this one and any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

So what you are say the car was running alright then it started missing, and when you checked it out there was no spark on no 1 and no 3, so when you pulled the leads off no it made no change to the engine. How did you check for a no spark condition. You do understand this system uses a waste spark ignition. The cam sensor has nothing to do with ignition. Give more information from when the engine was running good to when it started to miss.

I checked by pulling the ign leads 1 at a time and there was no spark from 1&3. I also checked at the coilpack for voltage with a multimeter but 1&3 had no reading. The car always had a slight rough idle but this is different it hesitates and sputters at low rpms and idles like a diesel truck. It slowly got worse over time and i have been chasing it ever since. Also got a new intake manifold gasket to help with idle but that won't fix my situation with the coilpack. I really can't think of what it could be. I know they run 1&6, 2&5, 3&4 so i dont get why 1&3 arent sparking. Any ideas??

Try another ECU.

Thanks SWC. I did try that and it didn't resolve the issue. Anything else it could be?
