Hi everyone. I hope someone is able to recommend something. My EF Fairmont is struggling to start and I'm not sure if it could be the ignition barrel. What I'm experiencing is all accessories work (radio, lights) but as soon as I turn the key fully to the right to start the car, it doesn't fire at all. Some days it starts first go, other days I've tried jiggling the key around with no luck. By fluke I think I moved the car into Neautral and it started.
Just wanted to know what I could check or test if anything ? |

Hello,
An auto will only start in Park and Neutral. There is a " device " called an inhibitor switch. Of sorts now days anyway, does the starter not turn ? If so try both positions P and N and wiggle the T bar.

Thanks mate
Whats the best way to check to see if the starter turns or not, literally check under the hood ? Also moving the T bar when attempting to start, what will this do exactly ? |

Thanks mate! At least I don't think it's the ignition barrel at this point.
Started the car again this morning and started again. There was a very slight delay in it starting but it turned over. Thanks! And will keep this thread updated. |

Hey guys so after 5 days the issue happened again where I couldn't start the car in P. Switched it over to N and it started.
Any recommendations on what I could do next ? |

Inhibitor switch.
Next time move it from park and back a few times and then try and start in park. |

Ok looks to be the inhibitor switch, I jiggled the T Bar while it was in park a couple times as it wasn't starting and sure enough it kicked over.
Just wondering if this is something I should fix or will the issue not get any worse ? |

Fix it.
It may stay the way it is but I will bet good money that it will get worse until if fails completley. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FUELMISER-IN ... Sw8-tWV7fn |

SWC wrote: Fix it. as grumps has said .. fix it ... it may play up now & again for 8 months [or 2 weeks] ..... then die completely leaving you stranded in the worst possible spot. so best bet is to fix as soon as |
