hey guys

my ford el had some drams the other day it started to go really sluggish and no power and backfireing through the exhaust so i thought it was timing so i put new coil and dizzy in timmed it up it ran alright for about half a day then in the arvo it started backfireing and carying on and then it just lost power and died and hasnt started since its got spark and fuel and cranks fine but dosnt want to fire so i put my code reader on it and it throws code 511 and 512 it throws 511 when i have the chip in then 512 without the chip and they recon it means internal EEC modual fault replace does this mean my ecu has s**t itself?

so if any one has any idea/opions on why its done what its done will be very helpfull

ford el 1997 manual stage 3 crow cam and chip, ported head bigger/better springs ,bigger stainless valves , cold air intake, extractors ,2.5" exhaust

Fit a new com or cheap second hand one and see if it starts could be lots of things try wreckers doesn't matter if manual or auto or ef to el all should get it started if that's the problem

Get your facts straight before you make statements like that.

You can't run an EF ECU in a EL or vis versa as the have different plugs (also different number of pins) and with not fit the other ECU. Same as the BCM, different units/Plugs.

Grab a know good EL ECU and try that. Any EL ECU will get you started and prove whether your ECU is faulty.

I was aware EF was 104 pin but couldn't remember the exact pins for the EL ECU, for some reason I had 70 in mind. To lazy the check the Manual :D

Even if they did fit. it wouldnt run. As they are different ignition systems

Ef/el 5.0 ecu SHOULD be interchangable ( havent had much to do with them) but OP says he has A ported HEAD. So assuming he has a 4.0
