its tough to say, with the right gearing a revvy 6 is quite capable even down low. Ford have shafted us with the terrible a*** in the 4 speed auto for 17 odd years now. Really doesnt do the 4.0 i6 justice. they wouldnt have sold any v8's though if they had of given the i6 a good a*** right from the get go.

look how those new model 4 cyl camry's go, and they are close to 1500 kgs. power is really only part of the story, its also how its apllied and looking at the ford 6 speed ratio's in another thread its going to go quite well. there will be less car up front due to compact engine design, so lower overall weight, and better overall weight distribution. this will effect handling and braking in a positive way. we have been asking for a lighter falcon since the BA, this is about the only way I can see bar removing IRS as standard or using space age metals which would be so impractical you might as well shop for a DB9 instead.

I think that come 2010 it will be a complete redesign of the falcon, perhaps even a complete ditching. you wont see a v6 in the orion because ford have said that the orion is not a new model its the "ultimate developement" of the BA/BF range. 2010 will see a completely new car from the ground up, like the omega is. If in 2010 you wake up to find the falcon is a mondeo you heard it here first :)

That would be sad... Ford would then lose the rest of the crowd (and the new generation of) that they started losing when the ditched the V8 when releasing the XF.

It has to be a falcon, it has to be tough, and it has to be at least assembled in australia, but designed and assembled would be better.

I dont quite agree with that, its more in the nature of they "taurus-ed" the falcon with the AU to try to get the aus public used to that shape so they could import taurus's as the new smaller falcon. The highly negative reaction by the aus public made the knee jerk reaction to design the BA before the AU series intended use by date to lift sales and stem negative reactions (this largely worked I might add :)

The new ploy is to get us used to the mondeo over a few years and slowly work mondeo style cues into the falcon so that when the falcon body is a mondeo (they will probably still call it falcon, but it will be a mondeo with maybe a bigger engine) is released the general public is more accepting. They have been trying to release a smaller falcon since the AU/taurus debacle but thye have been trying to do it on the cheap instead of designing their own car.

Ill bet a TT Duratec mondeo would be purty fast.

Its a shame, they have the best shaped falcon since the XC imho, seems a shame to swap to a non au designed car.. mostly because they might find themselves in another AU type situation in the future where the US design is hated in AU ,and they'll be stuck with it.

Holden seems much less cautious in this regard and thats why we haven't won the top selling car from them.

[quote="frankieh"]Its a very different motor from the holden..

something you should keep in mind while thinking about this.. take a Lexus LS400 motor.. a modern engine design.. only 4 litres and it's standard output is just over 200kw.. and thats only because the japs have laws that restrict them to that. (easy to fix)
quote]

Take the motor from a TVR tuscan R... 450 hp 4.2 litre inline six :D
that equates to about 335kw, and im 90% sure its a NA motor. revs to 8000 rpm.

then there is the 4.0L one in the tuscan S which pushes 390 hp and revs to 7000 rpm. thats the same HP as a boss 290....

If only I could afford to shoehorn one into the AU....
