this is how i should have worded the previous subject i have an engine but i dont know what year it is the top end rattles so i need to know what year it is before i can get the parts the engine number is (JG31AM77893C) THERE MUST BE A LOT OF STUFF I CAN DO TO GET BETTER PERFORMANCE ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.CHEERS DAVE

From looking at this site the engine is from a 1982 model. This would make it a 250 crossflow. |

So it is J= Australia G= Broadmeadows 31= Falcon 500 wagon AM= 82 July And the remaining numbers are just a serial number..

I dont think those numbers are accurate, they only relate to the older cars. ie my EA is a JG 32 making it a GXL. The numbers relate to more models than listed on that site.

So you plan on putting that motor into a Mercedes Benz body? I will be watching this thread as my friend has a 1980 MB 280SEL body & a 3.9 CFI motor with 3 speed auto sitting in a parts car. He plans on eventually doing this conversion if its not too hard.
