I’ve got a bit of an issue with my Ford Falcon XR6 BA MKII 2005 (250,000km) that was intermittent however seems to be occurring every time now. If I leave the car overnight then start it the next day and put my foot on the accelerator it does not really go anywhere, it kinda shakes like it’s going to stall so I take my foot off the accelerator and just let it roll a bit out of a car park and then try again and then it works.

Also if I then drive it to the top of the street, stop and then try accelerate when turning into the next street it can sometimes shake again and I have to take my foot off the accelerator and try again very slowly. It’s starting to make things a bit dangerous especially if I can no longer depend on it to respond as required.

I’ve been trying to let engine run a bit before driving off so that at least I don’t get the problem initially. However I have also noticed a gradual decrease in performance and somewhat sluggishness when accelerating during general driving. There have been two occasions over the past 6 months where I tried to accelerate quickly on the highway and the car went nowhere. Instead I had to gradually accelerate for the car to move.

I have had Ford take a look which regularly service the car however they have not been able to find any issue. I’m thinking they haven’t really looked properly into the issue. Any ideas?

Could be the pedal assy itself, the units were PRONE to being faulty when in warranty or, it could be the potentiometer on the side of the throttle body? Might be worth taking it to a fuel system specialist?

Mate the best and easiest thing to do is find some one with a scan tool with ford software, because you need to see the live data between your accelerator pedal movement and your throttle body response. Also there might be something in the continuous codes in the pcm, do you stop the engine and restart or just keep opening the throttle. Usually with a app pedal problem you put the foot down and nothing happens, when you say the car shudders it might only be a plug or plug and boot problem. These engines have variable valve timing and some times when you switch the engine off and there is no oil pressure the cams do not lock, and when you start up one cam is out of phase with the other and will run very similar to what you are saying, once again the scan tool will pick that up straight away.

If you have taken it to Ford and they couldn't find anything, I think they haven't looked hard enough in my opinion. A scan would have picked up an error or something.

Do you run the car on low fuel often? When was the last time fuel filter was checked/replaced? Have you tried running injector cleaner through?

Check the spark as well. Maybe a coil or lead is breaking down under load?

I don't know much about fly-by-wire pedals so check that as Pendaws21 said above.
